Iffat Afshan Ozair was the one and only of her kind. Her band of four hadShireen, Nasima and Ghazala besides her. A niche for her was created amongthe batch mates of ‘79 right in the first year.

Her expressions and mannerism were sophisticated and decorous that one was leftwith the simple options of appreciative and respecting. Many would recall her oneword riposte while conversing. The impromptu utterance of “imagine!!!” Thistenor depicted her factual feelings on the issue. There was a certain degree ofrighteousness and rectitude in Iffat that made her impressions indelible among somany girls.

Graduation followed marriage and she became Iffat Rasheed. Late Prof Shakir AliJaffery was much admired in the girls of the class. He became a mentor for Iffat tochoose Biochemistry as her subject of future. Iffat fondly remembers the timewhen she had a chance to work in the medicine ward of the Late Prof ShafiQureshi. He was a vibrant and versatile personality and Iffat remembers it to be agreat experience of life. She returned to Biochemistry and did her M.Phil in 2002.

Iffat resigned from the Government service and joined a coveted institution, theAltamash School of Dental Medicine in Karachi. She rose to the position ofProfessor of Biochemistry and then Dean of academic affairs. The HigherEducation Commission of Pakistan is working out to upgradae the curriculum. Iffatis a member of the Core Committee on Biochemistry.

As of today Iffat is very graceful and poised, dedicated to the profession and thefamily. Persona of her kind make this world a delightful place and living here acommendable experience.

Dear Shoaib Thanks for picking Iffat ,gem of a person.I happen to know her a little more than others ,as she was my room-matein the hostel for a while. I think I am not the easiest person to live with,butIffat never gave me any reason for shikayat. 51st personality of the week , Iffat Rasheed, Vow! I have personally know Iffat in many ways to begin with as a neighbour, then as a member of the well known group SING, then Ghazala's friend and finally as my SALI ( ghazala's sister). Iffat has always been a well mannered, composed and a soft spoken person, and always with a smiling face. To add to all these qualities she got married to an equally great human being Rasheed. The moment you see them , what comes to your mind is Made for each other. Together a great couple sailing towards their bright future with a wonderful family. ZafarI met Iffat in the medical school, very soon I knew this friendship is going to be everlasting, what started as SING has continued todate, even look at this great coincidence when we met out of no where in Hajj in Madina, is ko kahte hain Dil se dil ko rah hoti hai. Through out all these years me and Iffat have made it a point we will always keep in touch and we have done it. I am so happy Iffat is married to Rasheed, great person, makes you feel you know him for years. As they say, "poot ke payr paalne mein nazar aate hein". Iffat, who I know from grade school, was our "head-girl" who worked diligently as a leader, mentor, students affairs administrator and a liaison between the administration and the students. She was also involved with the students magazine. I am not surprised at her later achievements in her life. She married her childhood sweetheart, Rasheed Barkat, also a good friend from my school days. They make an adorable couple who compliment each others personality.Iffat and Rasheed, it was lovely meeting you in London after such a long hiatus. I know you come here to US often. Please make time to come and visit me, if you can. We would love to have you over. I will force Zafar and Ghazala to join us as well. I am sure they will comply. All the best for the future.Bashir.
