He was soft-spoken and had a peaceful personality. Lived in Hostel #2 andshared the room with Amir-ul-Haq Khan and Arshad Saeed. Indeed this isKhalid Rasheed. who loved to wear light colored bush shirts and trousers withheavy glasses. In those times it was rare for hostel-dwellers to keep a personalcar. Such a person was the apple of all eyes. Khalid had this distinct privilege.Late night fun and frolic activities in and around the peaceful Karachi of thosedays were facilitated by him.

Khalid was disciplined like a school boy when it was a matter of daily clinicsand studies. Rain, sun shine or closure of the College during multiple strikes,Khalid maintained his study schedule with a religious discipline.

Being an Army brat (and we won’t hold this against him), he had lived in manyparts of Pakistan. For him this experience inculcated a genuine respect for thediversity of different cultures, languages and customs of all ethnic groups ofPakistan.

Khalid Rasheed left for England after Dow. A few years later he returned toPakistan and served in Aga Khan University as a pediatric surgeon. He worked inSaudi Arabia for some time and then left for Ireland. Ravages of time havebrought changes in his physical features.

Sobriety, mellowness and exuberance overwhelm the present day KhalidRasheed who lives in England now…..…but his heart and soul remains deeplyentrenched in the biological motherland. His remarkable semblance to GeneralRetired Pervez Musharraf has convinced many that Khalid was his youngerbrother who was lost in infancy.

Shoaib keep 'em coming bro. Thanks.Khalid Rasheed 'Mush', this kinda solves the problem of mistaking you from the other Khalid Rasheed 'Doncaster'. ..am I right. It is like Eijaz Piddi and Eijaz not Piddi. We will call you Mush.Known him since DJ, never had a chance to get too friendly, till I came to live in the hostel. The trio, Amir,Khalid and Arshad were my neighbors... good neighbors. Khalid had a dry sense of humor and loved to start some issue and then sit back and watch it unfold with a smile on his face. He used to study the most amongst the three but street smart Amir won each time. Khalid and Arshad were the two most non controversial people I have known. There was a photograph taken after the final exams, at some kind of farewell, it was on the terrace over the mess in Hostel 2. I wish I had that photograph, I would have posted here.Bashir

What a coincidence!! Khalid is number 23 POTW. Some of you might recall that Iwas one of the three idiots of Room # 23 with Khalid and Amir in hostel 2. I have known Khalid and his entire family from time immorial and have remained in touch with each other perhaps a little more than other classamtes. Great family!!! He has been like a brother to me. I have always been impressed by his extra ordinay discipline, integrity and focused approach to whatever he takes on his private and professional lives.

Was/is/will be proud of you, Khalid....always. --- Brotherly,

Arshad

So took the entrance exam. Sailed through the written, interview, verbal and nonverbal IQ tests with high scores….,believe me this is true. Then came the medical, and the Opthalmologist asked to read the chart, “what chart”. ‘the chart on the wall’. ?which wall. On that day I came to know that I can’t see beyond the tip of my nose, which is off coarse very long. My dream was shattered. After that there was no other thought except to become a DOCTOR. -- 1n’69 we came to Karachi. family was posted out in ’70,but I was sucked into Karachi life. I must say it was quite a smooth sailing. Went to DJ, met lots of friends in class as well as in the hostel, who became friends for life. Myself ,Khalid Iqbal and Saleem Ilyas were trio in the class.Arshad Saeed and me were neighbors in the hostel. Then came the Dow. There were about 40 boys from our section in Dow. It ---seemed quite homely, but I didn’t know any senior in Dow. I and Arshad needed a room in the hostels. - I remember that been ‘innocent’ we went to hostel to check, there was a new hostel nearly completion and decided that we will get a room in this one. When the admission was sorted out we were told by the CLERK BADSHAH to go and find a room where ever you like and take it. happily we went to the new building and ….. that’s an other story. Ultimately end up in Dormitory of hostel 3 with own ‘Manji’ along with Arshad,Nayyar. Jalilallah,Shamshad, Khalid Rashid(Doncastor) and few more. We used to play cricket in that big hall. In the next few weeks one by one every got a room by pleading to the seniors. I end up with a one ‘ Lord’ who was I think doing his house job. One day when I came back to the room, I found it locked from in and outside. There were some funny noises coming from the room, as my roommate was old, I thought he might be having a heart attack, kept on banging the door to help him. After a long time, he opened the door with a disgust, or a funny smile, on his face and said you should not bang the door……I grew up ten years on that day. Few days later, while playing cricket in the hostel 2 court yard ,met the ‘jazbatiNoujawan’.Very next day me ,Arshad and Amir became room mates for the next 6 years and friends to this day, even with our politcoideological differences, even been a probable cause for Amir’s GS election loss (Sorry Amir)

Dear KhalidGood to read about your life story. Sorry, have been busy with end of year

examinations and could not write earlier. Literally lost you after AKU and only met you once since.I can only describe you as the most cool guy of the class, a wonderful ever smiling

face, a man of substance and a trusted friend. It was always a delight to make a detour of the 3 backyard hostels of DMC........as there lived the legends of today....!This word POW has different connotations to me...........may be Shoaib can revisit it ......or does he literally mean POW........! I second your proposal of getting together the locals here.........is there a Rehman Khan amongst us.....??All the best to you and your family.Asad
