ENHANCING READING AND MATH IN NIGERIA
The Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA) is a 3-year project funded by DFID through UNICEF as part of
the Girls Education Program Phase 3 (GEP3). RANA is implemented by FHI 360 in Katsina and Zamfara States in northern Nigeria.
RANA is improving literacy and numeracy instruction in grades 1-3 in both public schools and Integrated Quranic Schools, with the ultimate goal of increasing literacy outcomes for learners—especially girls. To achieve these goals, RANA has developed Hausa-language teaching and learning materials, built teacher capacity, mobilized communities, and engaged local governments to improve early grade reading policies.
