L.I.F.E. - Leisure Independence for Everyone

Breaking down barriers to build up leisure opportunities

Did you know a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) can offer 1:1 leisure counseling and coaching sessions just like an occupational therapist, personal trainer, swim or yoga instructor may offer in their area of expertise? What is leisure counseling? It is helping individuals with disabilities develop a positive leisure lifestyle. This is done through leisure appreciation, self-awareness, decision-making, self-determination, leisure activity, community & social skills, leisure resources. The ultimate goal is for an individual to engage in leisure as independently as possible. How is it done? Arlington County CTRS staff determines an individual’s recreational needs using valid and reliable assessment tools then will design a program to build skills based on the need and personal goals of the individual. Specific outcomes may include identifying leisure interests, money handling, practicing and improving appropriate social interactions, learning a specific leisure pursuit, etc. L.I.F.E. is meant to increase participants’ leisure skills and provide information and support to pursue those opportunities.Who is it for? This is open to individuals, ages 13-adult, who have a disability and motivated to actively participate in community recreation with reasonable accommodations. Offered at discounted rate of $45/hour for minimum of five sessions plus one hour intake assessment. Please call 703-228-4736 or email [email protected]. We will perform a phone screening with you to determine goals and discuss fees.

If you know your household ID (listed above your address on you catalog's mailing label), you may be able to use the automated ID/Password reminder function of the online registration system. New customers must establish an online account prior to registration by going to https://registration.arlingtonva.us. Confirmations are mailed the day they are processed or emailed if we have your current email on file. Please do not call the Registration Office to change or verify a class until you receive a confirmation. Class participants must sign a Hold Harmless Agreement at the initial class. Adults must sign for children. Refusal to sign this agreement will result in the participant being denied acceptance into the program.

FeesPayment is required at time of registration. Checks or money orders are payable to Treasurer, Arlington County. The registrant’s name, address and phone number must appear on each check. Pursuant to Arlington County Code, an assessment fee of $50 is charged for a returned check. Acceptable charge payments are VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. See below for discounted fees based on annual income. Arlington residents 62 and over receive a 30% discount on the fee shown in the catalog unless otherwise stated or from any 55+ Pass program.
