Empowering women in rural India

In Panchayat (village) elections she was elected Sarpanch (Mayor).

Ujjawala said sport helped her achieve this position

35 young women in rural Maharashtra State have become Sarpanch through II

They are role models and advocates, helping young girls at risk or forced early marriage, and encouraging families to let girls stay in education

“I have come a long way thanks to sport and it will always be an area of special focus in my work.”

Increasing Access to Sport

Through International Inspiration Oak Field Special School in Nottingham UK

was linked to Kano Special School in Nigeria

CASE STUDY: HANDBALL IN NIGERIA AND UK

Staff and students of the 2 schools worked on the skills needed for

handball and set up a project across a range of ages and abilities in

Nigeria and the UK

Creative adaptation has enabled students with more profound

disabilities to access key skills, and to experience playing

competitive sport

“PE teachers report a clear increase in key skills

and attainment levels among students involved.”

(Ecorys)

Highlighting Paralympic values

CASE STUDY: TRINIDAD & TOBAGO PARALYMPIC SCHOOL DAYS

Hundreds of Young Sports Leaders (YSL) ran inclusive festivals of

sport in their schools

The YSL educated other students about the inspirational power of

Paralympic sport, and raised awareness of what it means to live with

disability in their communities.

“This programme tells young people that

regardless of their physical ability they are

capable of greatness”

Derrick Phillip, Principal

Mucurapo East Secondary School

category in the Alexandra Swimming Championships.

As a Young Sports Leader his ambition is to become a role model

for disabled young people everywhere, and to help others in his

community to play sport.

The future for International Inspiraiton

The success of International Inspiration has inspired long term

commitment in the UK to developing social benefit through sport

International Inspiration is now the name of the charity that is

continuing the international sport and social legacy of London 2012

Lord Coe chairs the charity and is committed to carrying on the

mission we began in 2007

Access to sport can achieve wider social benefit when it is aligned to

values and principles

International Inspiration is working in partnership with the IOC to

help harness and develop YSL across the globe to support the

promotion and practice of Olympic Values Education

We will also put empowering practitioners and the safeguarding and

protecting of children and the vulnerable in sport at the heart of all

International Inspiration activities.
