Nonprofit Organization U. S. POSTAGE PAID Winchester, TN PERMIT NO. 141 THE MESSENGER of the First United Methodist Church P. O. Box 427 Winchester, TN 37398 Rev. Steve Angus, Pastor MARCH 2018 Many of our congregation gathered on Sunday evening February 24 th as Jeff Mallory chair of the Church Trustees gave an update on the revitalization plan for our church facility. I believe all who attended came away feeling excited about the adventure that lies before us. Within the coming weeks renovation the restrooms on the middle (2 nd ) floor of the Education building will begin and also the replacing of all windows in that building will begin. As this work is done we ask for your patience. The Mens restroom will be the first renovated. We ask that men please make use of the facilities in the Gym area. When the Mens room is completed it will temporarily become the Womens restroom and once again we ask the men to use the Gym facilities. Soon the replacement windows will be delivered and placed in the various Sunday school rooms in which they are to be installed. We ask you to be aware of them being in these rooms especially as it pertains to our children. The next phase will be the total installation of a new roof on all three of our buildings. The first building to be roofed will be the Sanctuary and the work will proceed to Education Building and then the Barrett Family Life Center. Please be aware that roofing material will be located in specified areas around the church grounds. On occasion, this may effect of parking during the week. Our Trustees and the Project Manager are taking great care to schedule work around the ongoing ministry of the church. It is important that all events that need to be scheduled be directed to the church office. This is an exciting time. We also heard that thoughtful consideration is being given to how we can best utilize the space we have. It is possible that some Sunday School classes will have the Methodist experience of Being Moved. The classes that may be affected have been consulted. We believe the ideas being considered will be beneficial to our not only our Youth and Childrens Ministries but also the Wesley Preschool and those of us who have reached a time in our lives when climbing steps is not on our to do list. The Trustees are also hopeful that our need to make the restrooms and Education Building assessable to the Sanctuary can be addressed. If you have questions please feel free to contact me, a Trustee or the Chairperson of the Trustees. You can obtain Jeffs contact information through the church office. I also want to take this opportunity to invite you to support the Revitalization Project financially. What you have read above is only the beginning phases of this project. As a congregation, we have a Building Fund which can receive donations and memorials at any time. If there are specific ways that you would like to support this Revitalization please feel free to contact me, Jeff Mallory (Trustees) or David Stewart (Finance Committee). The Finance Committee will be meeting in the coming weeks and more specific plans for raising funds to accomplish our goals will be forthcoming. You will find a schedule of some of our plans for Lent and Easter. I hope you will join us as often as you can especially for Sunday Worship as I continue the sermon series: Jesus at a Funeral. A FEW NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE PASTOR “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb,” says a familiar old saying. Often this is true in this area, as the last gasp of winter falls during the first two weeks of March, with spring following. God is in charge, of course, and the early spring that we have seen since mid-February has brought both the buttercups around the county and the white blooming trees in the churchyard. Still, March has not yet arrived as of this writing, and things can still change! The scripture tells us that the lion and the lamb will peacefully co-exist (Isaiah 11:6) under God’s leadership. Spring is God’s love for the world showing from his very hand! The final harshness of winter co-exists with the renewal of spring. The Good News of the Gospel is that we are continually renewed by God’s love, just as surely as spring comes again. Praise the Lord! ** Spring includes Palm Sunday Walk, Easter Cantata that evening (both on March 25th), Easter Sunday on April 1, and Pentecost on May 20. These are exciting moments in the life of the church, and the journey through Lent is culminated with the Savior’s triumph! Let Jesus help you battle the lions in your life, and you will follow the Lamb forever. Peace, Jon
