Entral route:

In general medicine, enteral drug administration is feeding by the digestion process of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract, such as the human gastrointestinal tract.

Enteral administration involves the esophagus, stomach, and small and large intestines .

Methods of administration include oral, sublingual, and rectal

Oral administration is a route of administration where a substance is taken through the mouth. Many medications are taken orally because

they are intended to have a systemic effect, reaching different parts of the body via the bloodstream

Specialty tablet like buccal ,sublingual , or orally disintegrating

Advantages:

It is more safer, more convenient

No assistance is required for administration

It is painless.

The medicament need not be sterile and so is cheaper

Disadvantages:

Sometimes inefficient – only part of the drug may be absorbed.

Irritation to gastric mucosa(nausea and vomiting).

Effect too slow for emergencies.

Unpleasant taste of some drugs.

Unable to use in unconscious patient

some drugs should be taken on an empty stomach, others should be taken with food, others should not be taken with certain other drugs
