Festival & Parade HistoryThe Christmas in Ida Festival began in 1982 with a three-unit parade, craft show, and children’s lunch with Santa. Throughout the years, the festival and parade expanded into a weekend event that eventually consisted of two parades: a daytime parade and a separate night parade of lights. After fifteen years, the festival organization opted to put all efforts into the Parade of Lights. The parade of lights was fashioned after a parade in the State of Washington and features the agricultural community and highlighted with parade entries with thousands of Christmas lights.

CHRISTMAS IN IDA FAMILY CONCERT SERIES

Celebrating 33 years of family entertainment, the Christmas in Ida Family Concert Series features top national recording artists and includes three concerts beginning Friday night with the Commemorative Concert featuring the Michigan State University Accafellas and continues Saturday with the Pop-Music Concert featuring New Hollow followed by a headliner Country Music Concert featuring Restless Heart.

COUNTRY MUSIC CONCERT

Presented by MeijerFour time Grammy Award country superstars, Restless Heart will headline the concert with all of their number 1 hits including “I’ll Still Be Loving You”, and “Why Does It Have To Be (Wrong or Right)”. Performing with the original members, Restless Heart continues to thrill audiences with their award-winning talent and a sound characterized by hints of pop and country rock. Restless Heart has put 26 hits on the country charts with six climbing to #1 and nine others finding their place in the Top Ten. Performing over three decades, Restless Heart has enjoyed several CMA nominations and ACM nominations while exciting fans and Nashville with a new and contemporary country sound.

New Hollow will take center stage performing the popular pop-concert. New Hollow has hit the charts with the “She Ain’t You” released on Epic Records, and peaking in the top twenties. The band has just signed with Bee&EI/Sony Music. New Hollow has released their new single “Why Don’t You Love Me”. Their song “She Ain’t You” scored the teen trio a

“Breakthrough Song Of 2013” by Sirius XM’s The Pulse and was the Pulse’s #18 song of year, while Billboard cited them as one of the “bands to watch.”

FRIDAY NIGHT COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT

The Christmas in Ida Festival opens its doors to the world on Friday evening with the Commemorative Concert featuring the Michigan State University Accafellas. The collegiate cappella all-male performers was founded in 1996, and as performed throughout the United States including the CMA Music Festival and the White House. The Accafellas perform their own style of cappella pop music. Having recorded seven albums, The Accafellas have won world-wide recognition competing in the International Championship of Collegiate Cappella competition.

BMX MOTOCROSS STUNTS SPECTACULAR (Weather Permitting)

The Right Direction Youth Development Program of Toledo, Ohio will perform extreme bicycle stunts in a spectacular non-stop action-packed show featuring high flying aerial acrobatics performed on our portable ramp. The show features local Pro rider and Ida, Michigan native David Lieb in a spectacular, non-stop, action-packed show! The Right Direction Youth Development Program is directed and mentored by professional athletes that help youth become successful throughout their life by positive youth development programs.

BENEFIT AUCTION

The Ida High School Class of 2017 will hold a new merchandise benefit auction in the heated Partners tent at the Ida Township Hall parking lot. With merchandise for the entire family, the auction is a must for the Christmas shopper. Anita’s Dance Company of Wisconsin will kickoff the auction with a high energy Holiday dance performance

The Parade of Lights tours the downtown district with illuminated floats, fire trucks, farm implements, cartoon characters, bands and marching units. Attracting over 130 parade units, the parade entertains an estimated 48,000 visitors. The parade attracts entries from Michigan, Ohio Indiana, Wisconsin, Canada and has included Kay Lani Rafko-Wilson, Miss America 1988; Jillian Harris star of the 2009 Bachelorette; World Champion Boxer, Bronco McKart; Ernie, the Keebler Elf; Detroit Tigers, Paws; the Grinch; Louie the Lightning Bug; Big Bird; Ronald McDonald; and National Champion Owl Creek Clydesdales. There is parking throughout the village including Ida East Road,Ida West Road, and Lewis Ave. Shuttle service parking is located at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at the corner of Lewis and Dunbar, and at the Ida Auction House and Cornerstone Baptist Church at the corner of Lewis and Albain during the hours of 3:30 PM and 11:00 PM. Restrooms and refreshments available at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Senior citizen and handicap parking behind the Ida Farmers Co-Op office.
