Real reform, real progress

We have achieved a lot in the past four years – in our families, our communities, our workplaces and our country. We know what we can do when we come together through a time of crisis. Now imagine what we could do in a time of

opportunity.

The next General Election will set the foundation stone for this country for the next twenty years. Now is the time to think about the

future.I’m committed to representing you and building a strong foundation together.

Dublinbikes continues to expand and I continue to seek ways to locate stations outside of the Canal.New real time passenger displays are being rolled out at local bus stops.

My first piece of legislation means that Car Clubs are now parking on your local street.

With Cllr Paddy Smyth I am working for a new cycle greenway from Terenure all the way to Sandymount.

New gym equipment has been brought to Sandymount Strand, with more to come.

Sports funding of €20m has been delivered in Dublin in 3 years, to our local rugby, tennis, cricket, and martial arts clubs.

I continue to campaign for a cycle and walkway from Sutton to Sandycove.

New playground equipment has been delivered to our local parks with new playgrounds on the way including in Ranelagh Gardens.

New Schools and new school classrooms have been built, with more on the way.We are reforming the admissions system to prioritise people living locally.

I am working to protect continuity in schools between parents and their children.

A new Educate Together School has been opened in Sandymount and another is planned for Dublin 6.

I led the argument for fair funding for fee-paying schools in 2012 & 2013.

Real reform, real progress

• In 2015, unemployment will fall below 10%.

• An extra 80,000 jobs have been created since the launch of the Action Plan for Jobs.

• Because the government is closing the deficit more quickly than expected, we’ve been able to reduce taxes for 1.9 million people as well as taking 417,000 people out of the USC charge.

• We’ve also started modest new spending initiatives in Health and in the Garda Síochána, with new recruits and new vehicles on the way.

• With more people at work, we have more resources to spend on essential things like mental health services (an increase of €35 million in 2015) and early learning initiatives (annual investment of €175 million).

• At the same time, we’ve been cleaning up politics – corporate donations to politicians are now effectively banned, freedom of information rights have been extended and lobbying is finally to be regulated.

Real REFORM

Eoghan is currently a member of the Banking Inquiry. He previously served on the Public Accounts Committee, as Head of the Oireachtas delegation to the OSCE, and as Chairperson of the Fine Gael Transport, Tourism and Sport Committee. Eoghan has published numerous articles and papers on political reform, reducing the cost of government, and creating jobs in the new economy - the high -tech sector is one of his priorities. Eoghan’s political pamphlet ‘Reforming Dáil Éireann’ from 2013 has recently been revamped at the request of An Taoiseach.

BUILDING A REPUBLIC OF

We need to look at how we can use economic progress to create a fairer and more progressive society. By creating jobs we create new prospects for people. With more people making a contribution, there are greater gains to target at those who need our help the most. This gives us new opportunities to explore as we seek to shape an inclusive, democratic Republic. What’s important to you?

Opportunity

Political reform is important, because when politics fails, we all suffer the consequences. Good work has been done, but we can do more:

CommUNITYAn inclusive society values people and communities. That means:

• Equal rights & protecting the modern family

• Protecting women’s rights and health in pregnancy

• Removing blasphemy from the Constitution• Abolishing the Direct Provision system • Supporting your school choice for your

children• Thinking green and living green

#climateaction #climatejustice

OpportunityPeople should be free to live their lives the way they want -

and the government should be there to protect those rights.

H I G H - T E C HStart-up City Since my election, I have focussed much of my attention on the high-tech, start-up scene in Dublin. My interest in technology is not simply because of the dynamic jobs and opportunities new tech is creating for my peers; it’s also because of the way technology is improving how

we interact with state organisations (take a look at my Tax Transparency calculator on www.taxtransparency.ie), and how it is disrupting traditional business models (for example in banking, where I have been pushing for government support of peer-to-peer financing platforms).

Last year I opened the 2014 Python programming conference PyCon. I have also been a guest speaker at StartUp Bootcamp and The Digital Hub.

In 2014 I also hosted an Hour of Code event in Dáil Éireann and am a long standing supporter of CoderDojo.

On the right you can see a picture of me speaking on the main stage of the Dublin Web Summit about the enterprise culture for new companies.

In 2011 I supported my own research trip to Silicon Valley, where I met with Facebook, Silicon Valley Bank and Stanford. The following year, I introduced Silicon Valley Bank to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny here in Dublin.

Real reform, real progress

Irish Independent, 22 December 2013.

Eoghan Murphy, the Fine Gael TD, has successfully argued for a subcommittee of the PAC to concentrate solely on Nama’s

operations: “The oversight hasn’t been sufficient, and the department needs to

up its act in terms of engagement.”

“Wage improvements in the economy should

be delivered through changes in the tax bands

and rates that will benefit everyone and not

just one sector”. Irish Times, 11 August 2014

Fine Gael’s newly elected Eoghan Murphy wanted all

backbenchers to be treated equally and given improved

access to Dáil business. He criticised a system under which

legislative debates now consist of individual statements on

the record, rather than a deliberative process. Irish Times Editorial, February 2015.

“I do not agree with it...I would not have designed the tax this way”.

Eoghan speaking on the

Property Tax in the Dáil,

December 2012.

“The Direct Provision System is a disgrace and it really shames us as a nation...it’s a form of institutional racism”.

Eoghan speaking in the Dáil in October 2014

“It is an undeniable fact that sending children to fee-paying schools saves the State money.”

Irish Times, March 2013.

“The Tax system must do more for the self-employed - and soon”.

Opinion Piece ,Sunday Times 23 November 2014

The existing abortion laws are too restrictive, and we are failing our

citizens as a result’. Eoghan speaking in the Dail

in December 2013.
