CELEBRATING WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

Our guest preacher today is the Reverend Jason Ku. Jason was born in Busan,

South Korea and immigrated to Carmichael in March, 1979. He graduated from

UC Davis with a degree Economics in 1985 and worked in various busi-

ness fields until he began attending San Francisco Theological Seminary. He

received his Master of Divinity in 2007 and was ordained as a Minister of Word

and Sacrament at Sacramento Presbytery in 2010. Through the special pro-

gram “For Such A Time As This,” he first served both the First Presbyterian

Church, Holden, MO and also served at the same time the First Presbyterian

Church in Pleasant Hill, MO. Most recently, he served New Wave Korean Fel-

lowship, which meets in the Chapel at CPC. He honorably retired from Sacra-

mento Presbytery in 2019. Jason is married to Dongsook Ku, and has one

daughter, one son, and three grandchildren.

GUEST PREACHER

Welcome to worship! October brings with it many opportunities to cast off anxiety

and fear, discord and division, and embrace God's mission of reconciliation. To-

day is World Communion Sunday and we join churches around the world as we

support the Peace & Global Witness Offering of the Presbyterian Church USA. In

the coming weeks, we will also contemplate stewardship. Through worship and

prayer, we will consider how CPC enables us to be in relationship beyond our-

selves with siblings around the corner and the world.

As we continue to navigate worship in new ways during this season of COVID-

19, we pray that you will find community in both familiar and unexpected places.

Our 8:45 a.m. outdoor worship service is a simplified service with appropriate

precautions for attendees (think sociable, yet sensible). Our 10:00 a.m. live

stream worship service blends traditional and contemporary styles and also in-

cludes pre-recorded videos which provide an opportunity for members of our

faith community to participate in new ways.

May the peace and wholeness of Christ be with you always,

~Pastor Keith and Pastor Ivan

You are invited to join an outdoor worship service on Sundays at 8:45 a.m. on

Bucknam Field (north end of the CPC parking lot, by the community garden).

Please bring your own chair or blanket to gather on the field; seating areas will be

clearly marked. To help us plan, we ask that you make a reservation each week.

Click on the link HERE or leave a message at 916-486-9081 ext. 200.

We also ask that you wear a face covering, keep social distance in your marked

area, and take with you whatever you bring.

The service will last about 40 minutes and include a sermon and instrumental mu-

sic. Childcare and restrooms will NOT be available.

The usual worship live stream will continue at 10:00 a.m.

The worship bulletin and guidelines for attending will be emailed to everyone on

the reservation list prior to the service. There will not be any printed handouts.

Ushers will be on hand to help attendees.

While we miss all of our CPC family and long to gather in person, we ask that if

you are at higher risk for contracting COVID-19 that you continue to worship from

home via the live stream and Zoom coffee fellowship.

ZOOM COFFEE FELLOWSHIP

The Peace & Global Witness Offering encourages the church to cast off anxiety

and fear, discord and division, and embrace our God's mission of reconciliation to

those around the corner and around the world.

A gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the

Peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world.

Individual congregations are encouraged to utilize up to 25% of this Offering to

connect with the global witness of Christ's peace. Mid councils retain an additional

25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation. The remaining 50% is used by the

Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of vio-

lence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian

witness.

CPC will be receiving this offering this Sunday, October. 4. Please make checks

payable to CPC with Peacemaking in the memo line.

If you play an instrument, we’d love to hear have you play one to three songs on

a Sunday morning during the outdoor worship service. Please contact Karen

Orlando at [email protected] or 916–847-4100 for more details.

SHARE YOUR MUSICAL TALENT

3 World Communion Sunday

The Biblical story of Samuel can inspire us to serve

God and others with all our strength – meaning our

time, talent, testimony, and treasure. To be great

stewards we need to serve and share what we have to

offer.

Today we begin our campaign to support the budget for

next year. Our Stewardship Committee will be bringing

you a plethora of information items about CPC’s needs

and your opportunities to help us meet those needs.

This morning Laura Janik will introduce our theme, and next week we’ll begin

our 4-part video series on stewardship and our church Mission Statement.

Want some more details? See the Stewardship Page on CPC’s web site.

Special Friends:

Please pray for these

folks who typically are

unable to attend worship,

but now are likely even

more restricted. Because

the list is long, we include

a few each week.

In Sympathy:

Please remember in your

thoughts and prayers:

• Linda Hatch and family on

the loss of her husband,

Charlie Hatch, on

September 28.

• Bob &Char Bergsten and

family on the loss of their

daughter, Laura Bergsten,

on September 29.

Sachiko Mishler (daughter-in-law to Phil and Jimmi Mishler) was born and raised in Japan. She trav-eled to the U.S.A, and was an Art Major at Arizona State. She noticed her passion for figure drawing, and enjoys painting activities she sees around her. We are honored to show Sachiko’s incredible col-lection of oil paintings. Her work will warm your heart!
