1.1 EXPOSURE

Observing Oneself

A look into oneself will enable you to reflect on your own personal qualities. Take

sometime to identify your best personal qualities and those that you intend to further

develop. Use the following forms to record your self-appraisal.

Description of Myself Critical Examples

1. Flexible I am often assigned to do various activities which show that I am not excelling only to one area.

2. Hard-working I am a kind of person who never want to be left behind. I often do task assigned to me in the best way I can do it so that I will have no regret in my life. Being hardworking makes me even more competitive and learn more things.

3. Open-minded I experienced being a class leader. This experience made me open- minded as I consider the wills, opinions and suggestions of my classmates. For me, being assertive can be one way to effectively communicate with other people. This characteristic is one of the special things that a teacher should acquire to be an effective educator.

4. Honest As an education student, whenever I feel confuse about the lessons given to us, I usually ask and clarify things for me to be led in the right path. In this way, honesty has been shown through telling others what I really feel and think about the things taught to us.

5. Positive Thinker Whenever problems arise, the best way for me to cope with it is through positive thinking. I see to it that I have my ways to see the silver lining of all the things around me so that I will not be stressed.

6. Positive Communicator One of the critical examples of being a positive communicator is being assertive which I really acquire. I see to it that I do not offend the people I talk to and usually think of the words that I should say to boost someone’s confidence. I am also a positive communicator since I always try to be polite even though I am angry.

7. Adaptable This is one of the things that I really want to develop since our world is very contemporary. Like for instance, in a classroom set-up we can encounter different types of students with multifarious interests, being adaptive can be a better way to make some strategies inside the classroom.

8. Trustworthy I am a type of person who trust others’ capabilities because I do believe that every person has a special skill that must be unleashed. Trusting other people is one way for you to be also trustworthy. You should give other people the trust that they deserve for you to be given the trust that you want.

9. Innovative In our contemporary world, we cannot do away from changes. Being innovative is one of the things I want to acquire since I am not too capable of creating ideas that would cater the needs of the changing world. As I reflect to myself, I should acquire this capability for me to be an effective teacher in the future.

10. Goal Oriented A goal oriented person is a person with focus. I see to it that before I do something, I already have the end thought for me to be sustained in what I am doing.

My Personal Qualities Rationales

1. Flexible It is really important to be flexible since there are instances that a teacher must not only be confined to the subject matter that he/ she is teaching.

2. Hard-working Enable to teach students well and to suffice all of their needs in learning, a teacher must be hardworking. In this case, the students’ success will also depend on how groundwork of the teacher.

3. Open-minded Open- mindedness is really important to a teacher to create a friendlier classroom environment wherein all of the students have the urge to participate in the day to day lesson of the teacher.

4. Honest Honesty of the teacher can be a good model for the students to also show honesty. Once the teacher has shown honesty, the students’ tendency is to imitate what the teacher does. In this regard, they can apply it to their real life.

5. Positive Thinker Once the teacher is a positive thinker, the students can be influenced to be positive. They can be able to dream big and achieve the things that they want in their life.

6. Positive Communicator Words are very powerful. The teacher must have a good choice of words when it comes to communication. He/ she must show positivity in words that would foster good image among other teachers.

7. Adaptable The teacher must not only be confined with the environment that he/ she used to deal with. He/ she must be adaptable to cater the needs of the students in learning.

8. Trustworthy Once the students have seen that a teacher is trustworthy, they can easily be influenced by the teacher inside the classroom.

9. Innovative Innovation is one of the 21st century skills that a teacher must acquire. In terms of instructional materials and decisions, the teacher can easily provide appropriate strategies for the students to learn efficiently and effectively.

10. Goal Oriented If the teacher is goal- oriented, he/ she is promoting a business-like environment among the students in which they can share and learn something inside the classroom.

2. Hard-working Consistent- I really desire this for me to establish good goals for my students. I want them to get used to my rules and regulations

4. Honest Creative- I want to create more activities for my students for me to create a hale and happy environment among the students.

5. Positive Thinker Punctual- sometimes I cannot do anything with being late. I want to develop the punctuality in me to be a good role model to my students.

7. Adaptable Decision maker- one of the good capabilities of teachers is decision maker since there are some instructional decisions and assessment decisions that must be done in the classroom.

8. Trustworthy Problem solver- there are cases that involve dilemma that a teacher must address. The teacher must be a good problem solver to address all the problem that might arise inside the classroom. In this regard, students can build their trust to their teacher.

A. Which of the desirable teachers’ qualities do you have at the moment? List

them down.

Among the capabilities that experienced teachers have possessed, what I really

have at this moment is enthusiasm since teaching has always been my passion.

In this regard, I can easily connect with my students in a friendly manner wherein

they can be interested to what I am teaching.

B. Which of your present qualities do you want to further develop or

strengthen? Are they in the list of desirable teachers’ qualities?

The present abilities that I still want to further develop are being flexible

and goal- oriented. Sometimes, I find it difficult to be sustained in what I

am doing simply because I forgot the goals that I set in the very first place.

I really want to further develop these things because I do believe that

these things can be really helpful for the success in teaching.

C1. Which desirable personal qualities of teachers do most of them

possess?

Most of the teachers that I have observed show enthusiasm and passion

for teaching. They also show respect for the opinions of the students as

well as their colleagues. In this regard, I do think that they are really

capable teacher wherein students really learn from them in an effective

and efficient manner.

C2. Which attributes did you not have the opportunity to observe?

Some of the things that I did not observe during my observation is the use

of varied materials. Teachers should have the capability to use varied materials

enable to cater the needs of the diverse students.

1.4 DISSEMINATION

A. What will be your plan of action to further develop your qualities of becoming a

highly promising teacher?

I think I should research and observe more among experienced teachers because I

do believe that they can help me cope with the things that I still do not possess as a

future educator. Another thing is through good mind setting. I should set my goals in

life for me to be effective to what I really want to do in future.

Something to Ponder

If I have 9-10 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, therefore I am highly promising .

If I have 7-8 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, then I am a promising teacher.

If I have 0-6 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, then I have to strive in developing those qualities

for my personal growth.
