LESSON ONE: VERNEENE’S YOUTHFUL EXPLOITS. My cousin Gary sent this to me last week - It kind of explains—my personality. It seemed to fit the mission of our Lesson plans so I will share. Dear Norm and Verneene, Your offspring sent me a nice letter asking me to send you a remembrance for the your 50th anniversary letter shower. Unfortunately, I cannot relate shared experiences. Verneene while you and I spent a significant amount of summer time together when we were growing up, since 1968 I have lived at the far corners of the United States. We simply have not had the opportunity to get together much during the last 50 years. However, I have been assigned a task and all I can do is write about what I know…and that is to let Norm know how incredibly ornery you were during those Missouri summers. Most of those summers were after Grandmother and Uncle Lindy had moved to ‘still scratching’, with its big old farmhouse north of Breckenridge. Often on weekends, you, cousin Frank, and I would stay up until about midnight to watch old horror movies on television. As you will recall, the movies were the 1930’s versions of Dracula, Frankenstein, wolfman, the mummy, etc. You devised this plan to confuse our saintly Uncle Lindy after he had spent an evening with his friends. You talked the rest of us into helping you tape news-papers across the door to Lindy’s room. I recall that it was a bright moonlit night. Lindy habitually did not turn on lights because he was very considerate about not inconveniencing any of the rest of us. We were all in our beds but very much awake when he got home. He might have been just a touch inebriated. We heard… ..’What the hell?’ the sound of ripping newspaper ..’Damn kids!’ door closed. He did have reason to suspect who was responsible… he had been short sheeted the weekend before. Then there was the time that you and one of your girlfriends (Deloris Tuttle?) trapped your skinny dipping cousins in a pond. Taunted said cousins. And then stole their clothes. You extracted copious quantities of blood before you returned our clothes. You were no saint during those years. …but you were one hell of a lot of fun. Norm, I am certain that your last 50 years have been very lively! Norm and Neene, we wish you a wonderful 50th anniversary. Love, Gary and Vicki

Raylene and Verneene got together in Dodge City to do some antique shopping and catch up on what’s happening. Verneene is still recover-ing from the back surgery. It has been slower than expected but we’re getting there (slooooowly) So far that’s all I know about Jonquil concerns. Do let me know if we have any other news.

Theta Rho is an on-line chapter that takes membership from any state or loca-

tion. It’s members select the state that they want to donate their hours of char-

ity work and to seek membership where they want to belong in addition to

Theta Rho. We have a monthly newsletter to maintain contact with each other

and develop projects that the membership can participate in . Members of

Theta Rho create their own ESA environment and welcomes anyone who

shares our enthusiasm for the work that ESA does. We do not have monthly

meetings, no chapter dues are collected, and each member is responsible for

paying their dues to Headquarters and to any other council they may desire to

belong.
