We are so excited to be joining the Epworth UMC family. Lisa, Nicholas, Natalie, and I are hoping that by the time you read this, we will be getting settled into your beautiful parsonage and working hard to quickly make ourselves at home in our new surroundings. Even though we once lived in Augusta, I am sure we will be wandering around with “big city” eyes for a while getting used to all of the wonderful things there will be to do and enjoy in Columbus. Our system of appointing pastors in the United Methodist Church is really beautiful when it works well. From the moment my appointment here was announced, Scott and Julie made themselves available to us in every way imaginable. They both answered e-mails and texts quickly and gave us time as we sometimes spoke for hours on the telephone. They shared with us about Epworth, the parsonage, and the Columbus community. They have extended hospitality and welcome in ways we will never forget. It is clear I am not alone in my appreciation of Scott and his ministry. Our South Georgia Conference clergy have elected him as one of our eight clergy delegates to the 2016 Jurisdictional Conference at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. There, Scott will participate in electing bishops and the other business of our Southeastern Jurisdiction. I certainly voted for him and I know you are proud as he prepares to represent all of South Georgia at this distinguished meeting. There are so many wonderful things going on at Epworth. My family is excited about all of the ways we will be able to join you in the work you are already doing. Soon enough we will discover new paths God has prepared for us together. But for now, I am thankful for your hospitality to us and for the wonderful ministry and vision you have for your future. You are on a journey to more faithful discipleship. We are looking forward to joining you on the journey. May Christ guide us in all we do together. In Christ, Tony June 14, 2015
