Library News
The Scholastic Book Fair finishes on Wednesday the 19th Aug. During this time children will have an opportunity to purchase
books either for themselves or to donate to the school library. Books range in price from $2 to $25 (sets costing more) with
the average book costing around $10- $12.
The Character Parade was held on Monday and was a great success. Congratulation to the following winners:
Cameron Eisenhuth, Yeseul Cho, Erik Sie, Georgia Strachan, Ariana Peters, Jack Montagnoli, Natalie Teoh, Mathew Agius,
Ayla Gallacher, Patrick Eisenhuth, Mia Bosnjack, Olivia Cho, PeA Tuisila, Teina Tuisila, Hajar Al Daffaie, Lilly Schoemaker,
Ethan Gillet, Dylan Rios, Piper Cole, Bailey Wickens-Clancy, Avelyn Peters, Monique Romer, Emogen Lane, Ben
Tunks-Fletcher, Jasmine Troutman, Michael Darnell.
Congratulations to 1G who were issue 5 Book Club winners.
There is a new library system up and running for Term 3. It is called Oliver and is accessible by students from any school
computer and at home. Students simply logon to their portal page and there will be an Oliver button. There are many
features available to students including: search for resources within the library or on a website; see what is available or on
loan; check what books they currently have on loan; see what they have overdue; look at their borrowing history; search
World Book through Oliver; us Orbit to create a personalised search page; free e-books; author information; add book
reviews; receive library updates and much more. This is an exciting new system that I think the students will enjoy.
Kids Matter
Reminder - It has now been a year since we asked parents to complete a survey for Kids Matter and we have made many
changes from this information. We have created a parent information wall on suggestions that more information was
required. We have community events and courses available for parents; have organised parent workshops; homework club;
green team (gardening club); have every child’s face in a display to show unity and inclusivity; have researched a social skills
and resilience program to be introduced next term; are in the process of revamping the ‘caught you’ cards; have extra
information in newsletters around Kids Matter and much more..
It is now time for you to assess us again. We would like to hear if our changes have helped or if there is still more we need to
do. There is an information sheet include in this newsletter on page 12 for your reference. Could you please follow the link
and complete the Kids Matter Survey Component One only. The selected ‘period’ is Q2 April-June. Thanks very much.
http://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary/parentsurvey This Survey will close on Friday 28th August.
As part of our Kids Matter initiative the 'Bounce Back' program will commence throughout the whole school this term.
Bounce Back is a social and emotional skills program designed to support children in developing a stronger sense of
wellbeing and to become more resilient, confident and successful. The first unit to be discussed in classrooms is
Relationships. If you have any questions in regard to this program don't hesitate to speak to your child's classroom teacher
for more information.
Rule of the Week
Week 6 – Respect – I use appropriate language
Week 7 – Be Safe – I walk around the school sensibly
Just a reminder to come and check out our parent information wall in the library foyer. There is information on community
events and ideas to help with everyday life:
This information will change on a regular basis so make sure you keep checking in! If there is a topic that you would like
information about don’t hesitate to ask. If we don’t already have it we will find it for you.
