One of the oldest palace in the world. Queen Victoria, who is the first monarch used to live here.

Buckingham palace finally become the official royal palace of British Monarch on the accession of Queen

Victoria. Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. These include 19 state rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188

staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. The palace has over 77.000 m2 of floor space and a large garden

on the back of the palace, along with its lake becoming the largest private garden in London. This garden hold the

important role as the queen’s favorite place to host her annual garden parties and to celebrate royal milestone,

such as jubilees. Since the palace was bombed during Germany’s night offensive on London, King George VI

and Queen Elizabeth left the palace in the evening and moved to Windsor. There was not a huge damage at that

time, the north screen of the East Front was damaged and the Victorian private chapel in the south-west pavilion

on the front garden was destroyed.

One regular ritual worth to see is Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace. It takes place on

the forecourt of Buckingham Palace at 11.30am (on alternate days during autumn and winter).

In this ceremony the soldiers who have been on duty at Buckingham Palace and St. James’s

Palace are relieved by the ‘New Guard’. A military band plays music, which ranges from military

marches to Abba’s greatest hits. On Royal birthdays the band plays ‘Happy Birthday’.

Since this Palace is not for public, there is only one room that is open for public which is The State

Room and used for art exhibition.

As one of a major feature of London’s skyline, London Eye or Millennium Wheel is a giant ferris wheel which located on the South Bank of the River Thames. Right now, it is also known as Coca-cola London Eye, as signed agreement in September 2014 for branding. London Eye offers the highest public viewing point in London and also currently Europe’s tallest ferris wheel. Designed by architect Frank Anatole, Nic Bailey, Steve Chilton, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Julie Barfield and David Marks. London Eye gradual rotation takes approximately 30 minutes and gives you an ever-changing perspective of London. Each capsule could accommodate for 25 people and lift the visitor high up to 40 km on a clear day to see the spectacular details of the city unfolding beneath you.

Big ben, also named as Elizabeth Tower for the reason in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year. This tower basically is a clock tower, that’s why called also The Big Ben means the nickname for a Great Bell and the largest Bell in the tower which also part of Westminister Palace. As another London’s iconic, The Big Ben chimes every hour - the number of the hours (example: at 8 o’clock it strikes eight times) but the other bells also chime every quarter hour. On New Years’ eve, people waited up along the westminister bridge until Big Ben chimes and ended up with fireworks. They said new year’s eve in London is one of the bucket list.

The Parliamant and also known as Palace of Westminister where the House of Commons and House of Lords taken place of meeting. As one of oldest city, London mostly has oldish typical building so is their parliament building. The palace has perpendicular gothic style, which was popular during 15th century. Other than Elizabeth Tower/Big Ben, on the other side, The Parliamant has Victoria Tower where was an integral part of the Architect, Sir Charles Barry’s original design, of which he intended it to be the most memorable element. Inside, there are over 1,100 rooms, 100 staircases and 4.8 kilometres (3 mi) of passageways, which are spread over four floors. The ground floor is occupied by offices, dining rooms and bars; the first floor (known as the principal floor) houses the main rooms of the Palace, including the debating chambers, the lobbies and the libraries. The top-two floors are used as committee rooms and offices.

A must try Duck Confit Burger in Bricklane is one of recommended dish to try. There are some cheese choices such as: goats, smoked cheddar, and stilton. We personally recommend you to try the stilton cheese. It also comes with a relish, some leaves and some duck crackling, which adds some texture complexity. Stilton and Duck Convit flavour apparently too rich but it is just perfect. They confit the duck beforehand themselves and crisp it up on the hot plate, the saltiness of the duck against the sweetness of the onions and honey is absolutely sublime. They also appear at Whitecross market and Camden Lock market during the week although I recommend checking their twitter or facebook feeds for exact times for those two.

The best menu is Fish and Chips. What you will really like about this place is the warmth in which the staff serves you. What interesting is the owner of this place who shared that he is from Cyprus and he even drew out the restaurant’s location on a piece of paper. All in all whenever you are in this area, you can definitely give it a shot. And of course it’s not draining your pockets.

Although commonly referred as the Natural History Museum, it was officially known as British Museum (Natural History) until 1992, in spite of the legal separation from the British Museum itself in 1963. The museum is home to life and earth science specimens comprising some 80 million items within five main collections: botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology and zoology. The museum is a world-renowned centre of research specializing in taxonomy, identification and conservation. Given the age of the institution, many of the collections have great historical as well as scientific value, such as specimens collected by Charles Darwin. The museum is particularly famous for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons and ornate architecture, sometimes dubbed a cathedral of nature both exemplified by the large Diplodocus cast which dominates the vaulted central hall. The Natural History Museum Library contains extensive books, journals, manuscripts, and artwork collections linked to the work and research of the scientific departments; access to the library is by appointment only. The museum is recognised as the pre-eminent centre of natural history and research of related fields in the world. Like other publicly funded national museums in the United Kingdom, the Natural History Museum does not charge any admission fee. The museum is an exempt charity and a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John H. Watson lived at 221b Baker Street between 1881-1904, according to the stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle said that Holmes was inspired by Joseph Bell, a surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for whom he had worked as a clerk. Like Holmes, Bell was noted for drawing broad conclusions from minute observations. However, he later wrote to Conan Doyle: “You are yourself Sherlock Holmes and well you know it”. Sir Henry Littlejohn, Chair of Medical Jurisprudence at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, is also cited as an inspiration for Holmes. Littlejohn, who was also Police Surgeon and Medical Officer of Health in Edinburgh, provided Doyle with a link between medical investigation and the detection of crime. For the 1951 Festival of Britain, Holmes’s living room was reconstructed as part of a Sherlock Holmes exhibition, with a collection of original material. After the festival, items were transferred to The Sherlock Holmes (a London pub) and the Conan Doyle collection housed in Lucens, Switzerland by the author’s son, Adrian. Both exhibitions, each with a Baker Street sitting-room reconstruction, are open to the public. Finally in 1990, the Sherlock Holmes Museum opened on Baker Street in London, followed the next year by a museum in Meiringen (near the Reichenbach Falls) dedicated to the detective.

Home of the Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, this impressive building in the heart of Covent Garden has been playing host to every major star of the classical music world since 1858. The third theatre to be located on this site, most of the existing venue - with the exception of the auditorium, facade and foyer which are originals from 1858 - is the result of a detailed reconstruction in the 1990s. It claims to be the most modern theatre facility in Europe, and it is certainly among the most spectacular. If you’re serious about ballet and opera then this is the place to come for some of the best in the world. If you’re not, and just want to explore the building itself (we recommend the dramatic glass atrium, a magnificently restored former flower market that now functions as a fine dining restaurant and champagne bar), you can wander around for free during the day. An esteemed, iconic and architecturally stunning venue.

The Camden markets are a number of adjoining large retail markets in Camden Town. It overflows with a variety of colourful markets, shops, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs, theatres and cinemas. The town attracts enormous crowds of Londoners and tourists alike. Camden Lock Market, by the canal, was the original craft market, established in 1974, but now has a much wider spectrum of goods on sale. Both this and the ever popular Camden Stables Market - centre of the alternative fashion scene, Camden (Buck Street) Market, the recently improved Camden Lock Village and In-verness Street Market - which thrived on local trade long before tourists discovered Camden, are all open every day, making the area well worth a mid-week visit. But it is at the weekend that the market scene jumps fully into life with all stalls and shops at the markets fully trading. The indoor fashion market at the Electric Ballroom opens on Sunday only.

In every country there are several things that inappropriate to do or in other way. In London, the important don’t are speak loudly in public or transport or wherever in public because talking too loud considered embarrassing and offensive. Secondly, do not jump the queue, queue jumping is frowned upon. Next, do not stare. Privacy is highly regarded in the UK.

Besides, there are also some do’s that you should do in London such as stand in the right-hand side on escalator while in travelling on the tube, so other can pass over on the left-hand side, and give a 10-15 % tip if it’s not included in the bill.

D O ’ S & D O N T ’ S

Smart traveller always find tips and trick to do either to save money or to make your travelling easier. In London, another way to save your transport fees is buy an Oyster Card as soon as you arrive. It’s basically a smartcard that you use to pay-as-you-go for the underground, DLR, buses etc. You can buy them at most main stations and you’ll need to add some credit to it as soon as you get it. It’s super convenient, but the best thing is that it can offer savings of up to 50% on single fares. Additionally, having an Oyster Card entitles you to discounts at a range of museums. Offers change from time to time, but we were able to get into the Museum at Docklands for half price, as an example. Visit www.tfl.gov.uk for more information. Next tips would be Take Advantage of Free London. Despite some steep price tags, there are still plenty of free things to do like Visit one of the many free museums, Walk along the Thames and get some great photos of London’s top landmarks, and relax in one of London’s numerous parks. Regent’s Park, St. James Park, Hyde Park, and Hampstead Heath. The last one is we recommend you to visit London in New Year’s Eve despite London has amazing festive in New Year’s Eve in the London Bridge. Mesmerizing fireworks, music, and a loud bell ring comes from Westminister.

First of all, I would like to share my last year-end holiday on 2015. Be able to visit India and Nepal was such a huge experience for me. As I’ve mentioned before, I will tell you abouy my travelling itinerary to India and Nepal. But, I will tell you all about India first. Stay tune and check this out.

I flew from Soekarno Hatta International Airport of Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. From Kuala Lumpur, my flight was extended straight to Kolkata, India. So here’s my route :

Jakarta - Kuala Lumpur - Kolkata - Varanasi - New Delhi - Agra - New Delhi

Stor y and photo f rom Travel B loger about h is t r ip to India.

1. Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur

Me and Babang Fukkin (my India-Nepal travelling partner) chose evening flight from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur. We transitted for a while in Kuala Lumpur and our flight to Kolkata will be held on the same night. Unfortunately, our flight was postponed due to bad weather. I felt a bit disappointed despite the fact that I have to spent extra money to stay in capsule hotel in Kuala Lumpur. But finally we took off early in the morning on the next day and safely arrived in Kolkata.

The flight took around 2 hours from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur and 4 hours from Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata. Quite brief. But the transit time was unbearable. Screw bad weather!

2. Kolkata to Varanasi

In Kolkata, we only have one night to stay in a hotel with a unique elevator (to whom following my snapchat @feb_rian you must have known what I mean). Kolkata is not the main tourist destination in India. I can be concluded that nothing seems intereating here. The reason I chose to visit Kolkata is to try overnight train experience to Varanasi. But the situation got unpredictable when we couldn’t get train ticket both via online and on the train station. Because we were a day out of schedule, we caught up plane and flew to New Delhi. If you are traveling accross India by plane, you can try Air India or Spice Jet.

3. Varanasi - New Delhi - Agra

Actually, we didn’t intend to go to New Delhi. But the condition took us here first before we were heading to Taj Mahal in Agra. So, we took the plane to New Delhi and took the train to the center of city. Early in the morning, we took one day city tour to Agra on 5.30 AM until 11 PM. It’s quite easy to find this city tour service, especially on the hotel. And it cost only 200.000 in Rupiah. So cheap and worthy.

One more thing, if you are going to India, you should definitely bring sambal or sauce from Indonesia. In spite of Indian food tastes strong and rich of herbs and spices, maybe it is tasteful for some people but not my favorite.

Last but not least, enjoy your travel and hope to see you.

Cheers,Febrian

Febrian, owner and writer of ceritafebrian.com, started his adventure about a year ago. Before this, he only wants to explore Indonesia but have to go oversea. Started as a hobby, he evolves it to be a professional career that not everyone can afford. This is our little interview with him

When did you start to travel?

I started to travel 2 years ago

Where have you’ve been to? What is your favorite place? And why?

I’ve been to different places. My favorite place is Pokhara, Nepal. I love the people, the food, and the weather, very cloudy.

In Mantar village, Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It was the highest village, and I spent a night on an unplanned trip there. It was a very nice experience and an exciting one. I love the sunset and the beach around there. Also when the sun rise I felt like I’m standing on top of the world.

Are you a lone traveler or a group traveler?

I travel by myself, but sometimes it would e nice if I travel with friends too. The problem is sometimes we have difference on where we want to go. Fortunately, the budget gets a lot cheaper if you go with friends, and you can share laugh together too.

Must bring object?

Camera, or phone with good camera. To capture every moments with it.

What would you wear when you travel?

Plain tees, Jacket, Swimwear, and sandal.

Can you give us tips and tricks about traveling?

If you want to go somewhere, you must get mentally prepared. You must know whats around you, the culture, and everything about the place. You can google it! Also watch out for the weather and what to wear. Plan the budget! Also you have to spare your schedule because you never know the weather and the situation.

Tell us about your most unique experience from your travel.

The food. Because when you go to somewhere like small cities or vilages you must adapt with the local food. For example, you need to eat Papeda when you go to Maluku.
