Dear Parents and Carers,

We have reached the end of another term and today we held our Termly Awards assembly, celebrating the great number of achievements that our pupils have made in school this term. The pupils of Charvil Primary continue to be a great credit to their families. The circumstances we find ourselves have provided challenges, but the strength of our school community to work together, with our Christian values supporting us, has enabled many great achievements.

Preliminary data shows that our Year 2 cohort have done superbly in the Phonics Check. Despite the missed schooling earlier in the year, we will have achieved a 97% pass rate, significantly above local and national averages. The passion for reading in this school is clear to see and our children do superbly well as a result of excellent teaching.

The Christmas performances have been sent to parents of Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 and these really showcase what is wonderful about our school. As well as the academic successes which we achieve, our pupils show great confidence on the stage and their musical ability is superbly demonstrated in each of these performances.

As we look ahead to 2021, we hope for a more settled year in terms of schooling. We look forward to working with all of our families towards the ongoing wellbeing, happiness, academic and personal successes of the children of The Piggott School: Charvil Primary.

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas!

School Lunches

Please can you make sure that your child has a lunch each day. These can be ordered online from Aspens, by the 8.00 am deadline or a packed lunch may be provided from home.

While the kitchen staff will endeavour to provide a meal for those children without a lunch ordered, this does often cause considerable distress to the child and extra work for kitchen, admin and serving staff.

NB: If your child no longer requires a school meal, please CANCEL their order so that the school does not get charged. This applies to ALL children, including those in receipt of Free School Meals Thank you.

Year 2 - Virtual Windsor Castle Workshop

As part of their castles topic, last Wednesday, Year 2 linked up with Windsor Castle to take part in a virtual workshop. It was lovely that the children who were self isolating could join in too!

The workshop covered Her Majesty’s working life, including the many official and State duties that she carries out at Windsor. How to identify symbols of royalty, whose home Windsor Castle is, how we can identify if The Queen is in residence, and what The Queen likes to do when she takes time off.

Year 3 Stone Age Jewellery Making

How to make stone age jewellery like Year 3…..

Step 1. Cut a piece of string to the length you require.

Step 2. Make different shapes with your clay and mould them onto your string.

Step 3. Place a piece of clay onto both ends of the string and mould them together.

You have made a piece of stone age jewellery!

Hi everyone,

Well, back in March, who’d have thought we’d still be in this situation at Christmas? Certainly PTAs all around the country have been finding fundraising for their schools a bit challenging, to say the least.

We’ve tried a few things this term, with varying success – the Christmas cards and raffle tickets have made some money (£147 and £200, respectively) but our virtual events have been less popular. Conversely, we’ve had our best ever year for the Christmas trees – we sold 58 trees, raising over £500.

We’re not sure how we’ll play things next term yet, but there’s a good chance we might suspend our events until we can hold physical fundraisers. In this case we’ll be asking for donations from those who are able, as the school still has two big projects they’d like us to help fund (the Daily Mile track and the sensory garden, including a new classroom structure). Watch this space….

We really hope we’ll be able to run some of our popular events in the not-too-distant-future – we think the kids could really do with a disco to let off some steam and we’re sure the parents could all do with the same at the Summer Family BBQ. Let’s keep everything crossed for that.

Wishing you a safe and happy break over Christmas and New Year.
