Symptoms

Unable to install the vCenter Server agent service.

In the VMware vCenter Server summary, you see this High Availability (HA) error:

vSphere HA agent for this host has an error: vSphere HA agent cannot be correctly installed or configured

Why it happens?

This issue occurs due to dependency

created by a third party VIB for

the vmware-fdm agent due to which

vCenter Server is unable to remove

and install new version of FDM agent

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove the VIB that is causing the issue and FDM agent from the ESXi host.

1. Place the ESXi host in Maintenance Mode.

2. Run this command to find the list of VIBs installed on the ESXi host:

esxcli software vib list3. From the /var/run/log/fdm-installer.log file, find the relevant VIB causing the

issue.

4. Run this command to remove the VIB after verifying the dependency:

esxcli software vib remove -n vibname5. Run this command to remove FDM agent from the ESXi host:

esxcli software vib remove -n vmware-fdm Cont’d

Resolution

6 Reconfigure HA on a cluster level. • Browse to the cluster in the vSphere Web Client object navigator • Click the Manage tab and click Settings. • Under Services, click Edit. • Uncheck the Turn ON vSphere HA • Click OK • Click Settings again and select Turn ON vSphere HA. • Click OK

7. Restart management services following  Restarting the Management agents in ESXi (1003490)

8. Disconnect and reconnect the host from vCenter.
