The non official “Beginning of Summer” started with our Annual Memorial Day Picnic in the park. I would like to thank the Memorial Day Picnic Committee and the Viet Nam
Veterans of America Chapter 1031 for the Flag Disposal Ceremony. Also, I wish to acknowledge the persons that donated money, the volunteers and others that made this picnic a success: Dorothy & Richard Allen, Mary Jo & Dave Barber, Kim Butler, Gladys & Dick Dyer, Ray Fisher, Bob Fleck, Al Garza, Duffy Grover, Joe Imhoff, Lee Martin, Charly & Dan Papp, Jeanne & Dale Pulver, Grace & Harry Wichert and last but not least our GREAT WOTM Ladies. Thanks “EVERYONE” for all you did to make this a “MEMORIAL DAY” picnic. This was a day we were able to remember all the past military veterans, give thanks to all that served and to give our appreciation, thanks and prayers to those that are currently serving.
For the weekend of June 10 thru June 12th we hosted the District Picnic. There was free camping and our RV Park was full. There was a Friday Night Campfire that our members and our visiting Moose members enjoyed until midnight when the campfire lost the last flame. Saturday was the family fun picnic with food, kids playing, and dancing. Saturday night, we had the campfire glowing and cooked hamburger sliders and hot dogs to enjoy. This weekend, made it relaxing for both Betty and I to enjoy spending time talking with people from our other District Lodges and our members.
Now we can begin the official lazy days of summer. Oh, never mind thinking about being lazy. In celebration of “OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY” on July 3rd we will have another one of our family picnics in the park. If you have not been to any of our picnics in the park, you have missed one of our great summer events: food, entertainment and socializing. Again, we will have engraved mugs available for purchase which will include tickets for draft beer. Also, a horseshoe tournament will be held. So, be sure to sign-up to enter. Don't forget the drawing for the 7day-6nights stay at the Carlsbad Inn which will be held at the picnic. And the winner is??
We have so many volunteers and donations each and every day. You are all so “Special” and I thank you. I do want to acknowledge and thank Dan Garland for the 'red wagon' he donated to the Lodge.
Last month I said “Let's Keep It Happening”. May started to make it happen because of “YOU”! We just need to “Keep it Happening” continue. Please all MOOSE members attend the meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Visit for updates and more. Is your picture there?

Hello again to all my WOTM co-workers,Where did May and June go? We have had some wonderful events out at the Lodge, and there a more good times to come! The Memorial Day picnic was wonderful, and I'm sure those of you who attended felt the same way. The special Color Guard presentation, by
some of our LOOM members and the Flag burning ceremony was especially moving. It's so great to belong to an organization that has so much love for our country! I was sure proud to be there with so many of you. I would like to give a special thank you to Pat Walker, who came out early that day, to give an informative presentation, to our new WOTM chair members. June was a very busy month, with Rock N Roll in the Park, and our special Father's Day breakfast. The Rock N Roll event chaired by Cindy Mintz was lots of fun and of course when there is dancing and music, you have one darn happy Senior Regent! The wonderful music was provided by “The Noise Boys”. Thank you Cindy, for all the hard work you did for this event. It was great! The Father's Day breakfast was another success story. The food was wonderful and the dining area was decorated in a Western style. Lots of cowboy shirts on the walls and cowboy hats on the tables filled with wonderful buenellos made by Lydia Persails. Hope I didn't mess up the pastry name! Thank you to Charly Papp, Cindy Mintz, Doris Buydos, Susan Huppert, Mary Jo Barber, Shirley Higgens, Jeanne Pulver, Nora Williams and Lydia Persails who helped make this a very special Father's Day!The community service we do is recognized by Moose International, but we must remember to log it in each month. There is a monthly log in the Hall of Honor, where we can put our hours of monthly service. Let's all remember to put down our hours and let others know of all the things we do to help in our communities.Sunday July 3rd, will be our Independence Day Picnic. Hopefully you have marked your calendars? When you are marking that calendar please set aside the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month and come join us at the WOTM meeting. There are events in the planning stages, and your input would be most welcome.Let us remember to keep all co-workers undergoing any medical treatments in our thoughts and prayers!

Hi Everyone,
It's time for my ranting again. A whole month has gone by and not much has changed. We have been busy as can be. The Memorial Day picnic at the end of May, the District picnic at the Lodge on June 11 and Rock & Roll in the Park kept us hopping. All who attended had a great time. If you were there you could have used the new “Barrel Bar.” I was a little disappointed at the
number of attendees but those who did not show up missed a great time.
We are still fighting the financial battles I told you about last month. Hopefully we can put on more events so you, as members, have more reasons to come on down. Once again I want to remind you all that we have a Saturday menu from 1200 noon til 4:00 pm. Burgers, fish, chicken and shrimp. Give us a try.
Well, with the help John Geneway and some donated equipment we now have a WiFi cloud in the bar area. You can now get on the internet while eating and drinking at the lodge. Just ask the bartender for the access code.
If you have any construction skills we need some plumbing experts to help in a project to comply with Health Department requirements. I need someone who can help me in ordering supplies and do some shopping. Just let me know you want to help.
As I have said many times I believe you all are a great group of people. This was reinforced last week during a short urgent project. You need to read the “As it Should Be” article. A call for assistance in the form of housing some US Army soldiers on short notice came from a Moose Member from Florida. Response to that request once again demonstrated how big Moose Hearts can be. My heartfelt thanks to Governor Norm Linek for his rapid action and effort. We needed housing for 14 soldiers quickly. Thanks to Betty Linek and my wife Charly for not killing us when we told them “We are having guest overnight tomorrow.” When asked who it was we told them “I
don't know yet.”
Special thanks to Jimmy & Penny Richardson who housed three soldiers, Johanna Henderson who accommodated four soldiers. Kudos to Wayne and Patsy Clemensen who opened their arms to four overnighters and to the whole group of 14 during the day. All of them went well beyond what was necessary.
Thank you to Jr. Governor Lee Martin and Treasurer Joe Imhoff for rising at 0'dark thirty to setup and feed the troops. It was a wonderful
experience thanks to these Brothers and Coworkers. Lodge 1874 and Chapter 1013 lead by example!
Again, you are the best members in Moosedom.
Thank you,
Dan Papp, Administrator
Monthly Birthday CelebrationWe have a monthly Birthday cake event at the Lodge. There is a sign up sheet at the
bar for those of you that would like to help sponsor a month, and purchase a Birthday cake to be shared at the Lodge. At the nine o'clock prayer break, everyone who has a
Birthday in the month will be acknowledged. Please choose a month that is special to you and join in the celebration
fun.Cake evening is the 2nd Friday night of each month. Thanks for signing up and
helping out.

Greetings from the Moose Legion;
On Sunday May 29th the Legion served their great “Steak and Egg” Breakfast. We thought more members would have come to eat. Those that didn't come missed one of the “Steak and Egg Breakfast” done by our Legion. Be sure not to miss our next “Legion Breakfast”.
As you probably know, our Legion is responsible for the Park Area. What you might not know is how much work and dedication that Al Garza and Bob Fleck have made this area we can be proud of for our members, family and guests to enjoy. Thank you, Al and Bob.We would like to have a work party on a Saturday to clean the area by the children's play area. We will be in need of a chipper. As a Moose member please consider being a Legion member. As a Legion member invite a Moose member to join the Legion. This is the opportunity for all to become more involved in our Lodge. The next Legion meeting will be held on July 12 at 7:00PM. Fraternally,Richard Allen, Chairman

Birthdays at the MooseMay June
“As it Should Be”
It was Wednesday, June 22 , 2011 and I was starting another day at the Lodge. I was in mynd
office digging through the usual bills andpaperwork. The phone rang for the 100 timeth
and I answered it. It wasn’t the usual “What’sfor dinner?” or “What band is playing Friday?” On the phone was a man who explained that hewas an Army 1 Sergeant with a problem. Hest
also stated he was a “Moose” from Lodge2672 - Quincy Florida. He is stationed at FortCarson, Colorado with the Army’s 60th
Ordinance Company. One of his troops hadbeen killed in an accident and the man’s hometown was Escondido. 1 Sergeant Seip was inst
charge of a funeral detail who were coming toEscondido to provide the military honors forthis soldier. The government in its usualfashion had not come through with the funding to house the detail and there was no time to get the red
tape cut.
The detail was due in the next day. Heasked if the team could sleep or be housed at theLodge. I advised him we have no facilities at theLodge to accommodate people staying over. Hewas a Moose Brother asking for help and my replyto him was to bring his team here and we wouldtake care of them. Thus started a high speed urgentproject on a Wednesday morning.
I called Norm Linek, our Governor and ranthe situation by him. He instantly was posing
solutions and we initiated a search for housing for the troops. We could handle three at our houses. That left eleven to go. The team was due in at 9:30 am the next day so the pressure was on. Lodgemembers were contacted and canvassed. By the end of the day everyone of the funeral detail had aplace to stay.
Because of the world famous airline service here the detail wound up spread out across thecountry. By late Thursdayafternoon the last of the group hadfinely made it to the Lodge. 1stSergeant Seip and his ExecutiveOfficer Lieutenant Paul were thelast to get here. Immediately, in amilitary fashion, they began toorganize their detail and accountfor personnel.
The troops were housed, fed and hosted in the best mannerwe could provide. The next morning Lodge members were at the grill at 6:00 am preparing breakfastfor the detail. The Funeral Detail arrived in uniform ready to practice their formation procedures.
PFC Joe Charles gets a breakfast plate from Jr. Governor LeeMartin while Treasurer Joe Imhoff cooks and First Lady BettyLinek waits for more assignments.
1 Sergeant Seip gives a few last minute words as he reviewsst
the rifle detail.
The 14 member team along with some of the Lodge brothers and coworkers just prior ththeir departure.
They were fed breakfast to give them a good start to the day. They ate with the host members thatwere able to be there.
They then formed up to wake up the neighborhood by rehearsing the 21 gun salute. Afterrehearsal they left for the funeral. Good-byes were said and there were hugs and a few tears at seeingthe soldiers off.
As Norm and I reviewed the two hectic days we feltwe all had done a good thing. Everyone felt good inside. Wehad helped a brother Moose in need and did a good job of it. In doing so we came to know the soldiers and 1 Sergeantst
Seip forging new friendships and bridging at least onegeneration gap with the young soldiers. We were inspired bythese young men and woman who wear the uniform andperform their duties so well.
For a matter of hours we all pulled together to help abrother from another Lodge located at the other end of thecountry. Like the family that we are, it was accomplishedselflessly. It was amazing to witness the defending circle formfor a Moose member. That feeling was good to say the least. What we felt was the swelling of our “Moose Hearts” with pride and accomplishment knowing thatour Bothers and Coworkers made it happen. It was a good day in Moosedom, it was a good day forthe Lodge, it was a good day for being a Moose.
Everything was “As it should be!”Dan Papp, AdministratorEscondido Lodge 1874
