Important wiring information

• Essential Lighting products are only rated for use with copper wire.• Use 14 AWG or larger wires suitable for at least 80 °C• To use the quick-connect holes, strip 5/8" (16 mm) of insulation from the

wires.• To use the screw terminals, strip 1" (25 mm) of insulation from the wires.

Wiring examplesSWITCH-LEG CONFIGURATIONThis diagrams shows a sample wiring configuration using an Essential Forward Phase Dimmer (C4-V-FPD120) in a switch-leg (no neutral in the wallbox) situation.

4-WAY CONFIGURATION WITH ESSENTIAL AUXILIARY KEYPADSThis diagram shows a sample 4-way wiring configuration using an Essential Forward Phase Dimmer (C4-V-FPD120) or Switch (C4-V-SW120-277) with two Essential Auxiliary Keypads (C4-V-AUX). Daisy-chain each additional Auxiliary Keypad by extending the Ground, Traveler, and Neutral to each keypad.

4-way configuration

Note: The Essential Forward Phase Dimmer and Switch support up to five Auxiliary Keypads, daisy-chained as shown above in 3-, 4-, 5-, or 6-way wiring configurations.

Note: Each Essential Auxiliary Keypad can be up to 100 m (300 ft) from the dimmer, switch, or another keypad. Total distance from the dimmer or switch to all the connected keypads can be up to 300 m (1000 ft).

MULTI-GANG BOX WIRING EXAMPLEThis diagram shows a sample multi-gang box configuration with an additional 3-way location using mutliple Essential Forward Phase Dimmers (C4-V-FPD120) or Switches (C4-V-SW120-277) and an Essential Auxiliary Keypad (C4-V-AUX).

Tip: Use the two quick-connect terminals to daisy-chain your wiring to save clutter in a multi-gang box installation. For example, take ground into each dimmer and then out to each light.
