step one - learn the facts There is hope! Equip yourself with knowledge about this tantalizing “poison” by reading great books such as “Lick The Sugar Habit”, by Nancy Appleton, PhD, or “Sugar Blues” by William Duffy. That’s step one. Then, follow the rest of my five easy steps to kick the sugar habit, discover nature’s healthy sweeteners and begin to enjoy Nature’s sweet life.

Because most people love the taste of sugary foods, it is tempting to ignore the health consequences. After all, what are a few extra pounds? But in fact, regular consumption of refined sweeteners is a significant factor in several life-threatening diseases that impact millions of adults and children.

Current health statistics show that childhood obesity and childhood diabetes are at epidemic levels in America today.

• 32% of all America children and adolescents are obese. That’s 1 in 3 kids. (USA Today, 2/9/10)

• The average American consumes 149.2 pounds of sugar each year. (USDA)

This is tragic! If we continue on this path our families will not have the energy or stamina to truly enjoy life and the government will not be able to keep up with the $148 billion dollars spent every year on obesity.

step three - make water excitingMost people do not enjoy drinking water because it has become boring to their taste buds. But wait until you try water enhanced with therapeutic-grade essential oils such as lemon, orange, tangerine and grapefruit! Add a touch of pure agave sweetener and you have the most delicious and exotic-tasting water imaginable.

When I make this water for my family, I can’t keep the pitcher full. They just love it.

healthy water

Take a large glass water pitcher and add one or more of the following essential oils for a total of 15 drops: lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit or Citrus Fresh essential oil. Stir in two tablespoons of Young Living blue agave sweetener. Then fill the pitcher with pure water, stir and refrigerate. Enjoy all day long!

Water is truly the perfect health beverage. Once you and your family begin to drink more of it, you’ll much prefer it to the sugary drinks you used to enjoy. Note that fruit juices are very high in sugar: A 10 ounce glass of orange juice has 9 teaspoons of natural sugar. Eat the orange instead! The fiber in the orange will slow down the sugar’s entry into your bloodstream and keep your blood sugar levels down.

Keep healthy water in your refrigerator and beautiful bowl of ripe, organic fruit on your counter, and you’re on your way to a healthier life.

step four - families that cook together, stay togetherBegin preparing meals together as a family! Children actu-ally love responsibility: Give it to them. Teach them how to be an “expert smoothie chef” using ingredients out of heaven’s garden that will energize them for the entire day! Below is one of the smoothie recipes that my family loves. But let your “chef” be creative in choosing their smoothie ingredients at the grocery store and blending their specialty smoothie at home!

Teri’s power-packed breakfast smoothie2 cups organic milk (rice and almond milk work well too)2 cups frozen peaches2 cups frozen strawberries1/4 cup walnuts2 drops Young Living® Lemon essential oil 4 scoops Young Living Pure Protein Complete1 tbsp Young Living Blue Agave sweetener6 ounces Young Living NingXia Red® juice

Blend on high speed for two minutes. Serves 4-6. The last four smoothie ingredients can be purchased on my website.

step five - don’t deprive, delight!Instead of depriving your family of the cookies and desserts they are used to, delight them with a tasty, healthy version that won’t leave them with the sugar blues!

It is easy to change from using white sugar to sweetening with pure agave nectar. Young Living’s blue agave is the best brand because it has the lowest glycemic index com-pared to other agave nectars.
