PREAMBLE

The Department of Advance Training and Coaching imparts sports coaching to the

candidates for developing their competency and enhancing their skills in the field of sports

coaching.The programmes offered by the Department of Advanced Training and coaching are

aimed at graduates aspiring to become coaches and trainers in various Sports disciplines.

The courses will provide a clear understanding of the scientific techniques, strategies and

specific knowledge in the chosen disciplines to the students. Department of Advance Training

and Coaching provide the opportunity to the candidates to enhance and develop quality in their

professional practice and prepare them for the world of high performance coaching. Students will

engage in work-based learning experiences that promote and encourage analysis and critical

reflection on current coaching practices and contexts. They will develop expertise and

knowledge in leadership, management and relationship building, as well as gain an

understanding of the fundamental principles of science and practice which will serve as a

theoretical backdrop for professional practice.

The department working with vision to pursuit of excellence in sports coaching

standards, nodal agency in the area of sports coaching and holistic development of an individual.

The department seeks to provide highly specialized sports coaching courses, which are based on

the latest technological and professional developments around the world. The graduates can

become trainers / Coaches in Schools, Colleges, Sports Academies and Centre of Excellence in

Government / Private Sectors. The main object is to prepare high quality sport coaches and

physical fitness trainers in various games/sports with micro specializations, in order to cater to

the ever increasing demand of our Indian society and to uplift the Indian sport standards.

Swarnim Gujarat Sports University is conducting one year ‘P.G. Diploma in Sports

Coaching’. The sports disciplines included in the ‘P.G. Diploma in Sports Coaching’ are as

below mentioned.

PGDSC1.Eligibility:

The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of the following eligibility criteria:

PGDSC1.1.Education Qualification:

Graduation from recognized institute/ University or its equivalent.

PGDSC1.2. Sports Achievement:

Minimum participation in one Inter University Championship or National or equivalent

competition of recognized federations / associations.

PGDSC 2.Age Limit:

20 to 35 years as on 1stJuly of the year of admission. Relaxation upto three years in upper

age for international players i.e. Asian games, commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, World

Championship and SC/ST/OBC candidates.

The age limit of in service candidates shall be 40 years.

PGDSC 3. Admission Procedure:

Admission shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination

(Sports proficiency test, Physical fitness test and written examination) or any other selection

process as per the policy of the University.

PGDSC 3. 1. Admission of Foreign Nationals

Applications of foreign nationals nominated by the Government of India under

scholarship schemes and self-financing Foreign Nationals shall be entertained for the aforesaid

programme.

Reservation to the extent of 15% of the quota of Programme in a subject, on

supernumerary basis, for Foreign Nationals shall be made for admission to the aforementioned

programme available in the Department.

PGDSC 4. Duration:

The P.G. Diploma in Sports Coaching programme shall be of duration of one academic

years. However, the students shall be permitted to complete the programme requirements within

a maximum of two years from the date of admission to the programme.

A candidate admitted to the P.G. Diploma in Sports Coachingprogrammein the month of

July and she/he shall undergo a regular course of study for ten months in an academic year and

two-month compulsory internship.

PGDSC 5. Fee Structure:

PGDSC 6. Course Structure:

a) The P.G. Diploma in Sports Coaching programmeis full time one-year diploma

programme. The medium of instruction shall be English, Hindi and Gujarati. The

students are allowed to write the answers in English, Hindi and Gujarati.

b) The programme consists of the following types of courses:

I. Theory Courses

a. Allied Sciences

b. Sports Specialization

II. PracticumCourses

a. Allied Sciences

b. Sports Specialization

PGDSC 7. Attendance:

A student of diploma course requires minimum of 80% of attendance to be eligible for

appearing in the examination. Students who have 79% to 70% of attendance shall apply for

condonation in the prescribed form with the prescribed fee along with the Medical Certificate.

Students who have below 70% of attendance are not eligible to appear for the examination.

If a candidate is owing to shortage of attendance beyond condonation limit / rules

prescribed or on medical grounds, such candidates are not permitted to proceed for examination.

Such candidates shall redo the diploma in the next year as a regular student.

PGDSC 8. Woman Candidates:

Married woman is also eligible for admission. In case, a woman candidate conceives

during the course, she will have to discontinue her studies. She can join back in the next

academic year.

PGDSC 9. Question Paper Pattern

Each question paper for external evaluation shall have five questions. The pattern will be

as follow:

PGDSC 10. Minimum Passing Standard:

The minimum passing marks shall be 50% for theory as well as practical.

PGDSC 11. Grading:

Once the marks of the CIA (Continues Internal Assessment) and final examinations for

each of the courses are available, they will be added. The marks thus obtained will then be

graded as per the below table:

Grades / Divisions shall be awarded as follows:

1. - 80% and above - Distinction Distinction 2. - 70% to below 80% - 1st Division (A Grade) 3. - 60% to below 70% - 2nd Division (B Grade) 4. - 50% to below 60% - 3rd Division (C Grade) 5. - Below 50% - Fail

PGDSC 12.Award of Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching:

A candidate shall be awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching by the

University on successful completion of the course and having passed in both theory and practical

separately by securing at least 50% marks in each subject / practical.

PGDSC 13. Grievance Redressal Committee:

The department shall form a Grievance Redressal Committee for each disciplinewhich

consist Course teacher,Coachand HOD of the Department. This Committee shall solve all

grievances of the students.

ESSENCE OF THE COURSE This course will enable students to realize theory and practicum courses into practice and

help them to use their previously acquired knowledge and practices in systematized and structured manner to coach effectively. It aims to provide the student with the opportunity of undergoing a meaningful experience as a practitioner andto inculcate and demonstrate necessary skills for excelling as a professional coach, develop skills and competencies for working with diverse groups. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME

After completing this course, the students will be able to • developcoaching proficiency for outdoor and indoor activities. • organize and execute mass demonstration/displays. • conductcoach education program for various age groups. • demonstrate competence in facilitation and presentation of skills using appropriate
