Established in 1968, the National Archives of Singapore was originally department under the Ministry of Culture.

Located within the National Library, it was then known as the National Archives and Records Centre

The amount of knowledge we have of early Singaporean history can be illustrated by the numerous theories that exist on the origin of the island's name. Anyone visiting the popular Tourist State today will see that lions have a very central position, this even though the general understanding is that lions probably never have inhabited the island

The variety of religions found in Singapore is a direct reflection of the diversity of races living there. The Chinese are predominantly followers of Buddhism and Shenism (deity worship), though some are Christians. Malays are overwhelmingly Muslims and most of Singapore's Indians are Hindus; there is, however, a sizeable proportion of Muslims and Sikhs amongst the Indian population

Singapore's population of four million comprises 77% Chinese, 14% Malays, 8% Indians and 1% Eurasians and people of other descent. Although the original inhabitants were Malay fisherman, five centuries of social and economic development contrived to create a modern cultural melting pot as settlers came from China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, Europe, among others.

The four official languages of Singapore are Mandarin, Malay, Tamil and English. English is widespread and is the language which unites the various ethnic groups. Children are taught in English at school but also learn their mother tongue to make sure they don't lose contact with their traditions.

Hindu TemplesSrinivasa Perumal Temple This Temple is also known as the Narasinga Perumal Temple. The main deity in this temple is Narasinga Perumal. The other deity's include Andal, Mahalakshmi, Pillayar and Anjaneyar. Also, this temple has got a wedding hall adjacent to it. The Thaipusam procession begins from this temple only. This temple is located in Serangoon Road.
