3. “Pourquoi avez-vous appris ces langues ?” Vrai ou faux “Why did you learn these languages?” True or false

a. Olivia thought that French was helpful while learning other languages. b. Olivia thinks that learning Te Reo Māori isn’t that important. c. Olivia thinks the future is not only about English. d. Marie-Laure thinks that languages are only useful on a business level. e. Marie-Laure thinks that learning languages in general is something

very important. 4. “Comment avez-vous appris le français ?” Qui a dit… ? Ecris un F dans le carré pour Felix, un T pour Tabby, et laisse le carré vide si personne ne l’a dit. “How did you learn French?” Who said…? PART 3: After watching the video, let’s think a bit! Ecris les 3 raisons les plus importantes pour apprendre une langue étrangère, selon toi. (Tu peux t’inspirer de ce que tu viens d’entendre et ajouter tes propres idées.) Write the 3 most important reasons to learn a foreign language, according to you. (You can use what you have just heard as well as add your own ideas.) ______________________________________________________________________________________

You can either end the activity here, or you can make a grammar focus from the mistakes the students would have made in their sentences (maybe with using “pour + infinitif” or just using in general the infinitives, or maybe with phrases to give their opinion…) After that, you can make them work in small groups in the class, and ask the students to decide on the best 3 reasons they have in their group. One student from each group will have to say out loud the final best 3 reasons of his/her group (without making the grammar mistake that you would have just seen), and the 3 reasons that come up the most times will be elected the 3 most important reasons to learn a foreign language. (You can make a table on the board with the answers of each group so it is easier to do the final count.) To go even further, you can do some kind of review of the activity with the students by asking them “what has changed about your way of seeing languages?” or “what have you learned about languages that make you want to keep learning one?”.
