1 OverviewThis document provides instructions for installing and configuring Veeam ® on ETERNUSCS800 S6

The Veeam feature on the ETERNUS CS800 allows the system to perform backup andreplication with Veeam software on VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualenvironments.

The Veeam Agent (VAE) runs in the ETERNUS CS800 process space with direct access toETERNUS CS800 resources.

The simplified block diagram below shows the data flow in a typical VAE installation.Management communication is omitted for simplicity. The VMs on the customer networkare identified by the Veeam backup server. The VM backups can be full or incrementalusing the Veeam Agent changed block tracking. At the scheduled backup, the Veeam Agentworks with the Veeam Backup Server to facilitate the data movement from the backupsources to the ETERNUS CS800. The backup data is sent by the Veeam Agent to the NFSShare for deduplication and storage in the blockpool.

2 System RequirementsThe following items are required to successfully install and configure Veeam on anETERNUS CS800 system.

CS800 Model Only the following ETERNUS CS800 models are supporting VAE:

l ETERNUS CS800 S6 Scale

l ETERNUS CS800 S6 Entry Extendable (aka Entry2).

The ETERNUS CS800Entry (aka. Entry1) model does not supportVAE.

CS800 Software ETERNUS CS800 software version V3.4.2 or newer is required torun VAE.

System Status The system has to be in a healthy state prior to enabling Veeam. All hardware and software issues must be fixed and outstandingadministration alerts and service tickets must be closed.

As a reboot of the ETERNUS CS800 is required, a downtime ofapprox. 15 minutes has to be scheduled.

Admin User You need an ETERNUS CS800 remote management console (GUI)or CLI login with the Admin role.

3.1 Check System Health

3 Configuring the ETERNUS CS800To perform the Veeam configuration on the ETERNUS CS800 system, complete the followingsteps in order:

1. Check the system health; see section "Check System Health " on page 6 below.

2. Review the current software version and perform an upgrade if necessary; see section"Software Upgrade " on page 6.

Enable the Veeam feature as described in section "Enable Veeam on the ETERNUSCS800" on page 8 .

3.1 Check System HealthMake sure the following conditions are met before you continue with VAE installation:

l All backup jobs are completed and there is no pending I/O.

l All replication jobs are completed, and replication is paused (Replication > Actionspage).

l All space reclamation tasks are completed without errors (Utilities > SpaceReclamation page).

l All healthchecks are completed without errors (Utilities > Space Reclamationpage).

l All components in the system display Normal status (Status > Hardware page).

l All outstanding administration alerts are deleted (Alerts > Admin Alerts page).

l All service tickets are closed (Alerts > Service Tickets page).

For more information, consult the ETERNUS CS800 User’s Guide or the Online Help of theETERNUS CS800 remote management console.

3.2 Software UpgradeThe ETERNUS CS800 system requires V3.4.2 software release or above to successfullycomplete a Veeam installation. For instance, you can find the information about thecurrently active software release at the Home page of the ETERNUS CS800 remotemanagement console.

If the system is already running V3.4.2 software or above, continue with "Enable Veeam onthe ETERNUS CS800" on page 8.
