course of this 3-day workshop, you will …

learn about models of technology integration and how you can apply

them in your curriculum and on your campus.

investigate the meanings of digital literacy and digital citizenship in

2015.

attend standards-based breakout sessions that address your needs &

interests.

explore websites and mobile apps that will take your lessons to the next

level by supporting content, engaging students, and improving learning

outcomes.

share with and learn from your peers at our edcamp.

practice skills and strategies to be an Ed Tech leader on your campus.

There is no precise formula for successful technology integration. The

“best” model depends on your curriculum, your population of students

and parents, teacher technology training and experience, and many other

factors. We hope that this opportunity to explore the use of tech tools,

discuss tech integration models, and collaborate with other teachers will get

your creative juices flowing and give you ideas to take back to your

classrooms and campuses.

SAMR Dr. Ruben R. Puentedura’s four part SAMR model of Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition can help you when planning your classroom tech integration. The model provides a way of for teachers to think about technology integration in terms of a ladder, with the lowest level of tech integration at the bottom and the highest or best practice level at the top. Teachers are encouraged to "teach above the line," meaning to move from the bottom two levels on the tech integration ladder to the two highest ones.

TPACK Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework that identifies the knowledge teachers need to teach effectively with technology. At the heart of the TPACK framework is the complex interplay of three primary forms of knowledge: Content (CK), Pedagogy (PK), and Technology (TK). The TPACK approach goes beyond seeing these three knowledge bases in isolation. TPACK also emphasizes the new kinds of knowledge that lie at the intersections between them, representing four more knowledge bases applicable to teaching with technology.

Individual teachers, grade level, school-specific factors, demographics, culture, and other factors ensure that every situation is unique, and no single combination of content, technology, and pedagogy will apply for every teacher, every course, or every view of teaching. TIM The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) was developed by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology to help with the complex task of evaluating technology integration in the classroom. Basic technology skills and integration of technology into the curriculum go hand in hand to form teacher technology literacy. The matrix can be used to encourage the seamless use of technology in all curriculum areas and promote technology literacy. See http://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/ for more information.

Technology Standards The International Society for Technology in Education Standards (formerly known as the NETS) were developed as a tool for schools to assess and evaluate their skills in order to implement effective instructional technology. ISTE developed a set of standards for students, teachers, administrators, coaches, and computer science educators. The sets of standards are designed to work together to support learning, teaching, leading, and transforming schools into the digital age. The purpose of the ISTE standards is to transform schools by promoting best practices in learning and teaching with technology. This global set of standards have been adopted worldwide because of their rich, effective benefits. The student standards focus on developing higher-order thinking skills, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and digital citizenship. The teacher standards highlight ways in which to help transform instructional methods to produce online learning environments which are student-centered and/or project-based and to prepare students to compete in the global job market as responsible digital citizens. The administrator standards serve as a guide to systemic change in schools to promote creative, digital environments. Collaboratively, the sets of standards provide ways to inspire and support schools in their implementation of technology integration models such as TIM, SAMR, and TPACK.

Understanding By Design (UbD) Understanding by Design® (UbD™) is a framework for improving student achievement. Emphasizing the teacher's critical role as a designer of student learning, UbD™ works within the standards-driven curriculum to help teachers clarify learning goals, devise revealing assessments of student understanding, and craft effective and engaging learning activities.

TRUDACOT Technology-Rich Unit Design and Classroom Observation Template (TRUDACOT) is intended to help facilitate educator conversations about deeper learning, student agency, and technology integration.

The goal of this framework is to push past the typical response to digital activities in the classroom that focus on student engagement and instead evaluate whether students are truly using higher-order thinking skills, learning core aspects of a specific discipline and using technology in the most powerful and transformative ways.

CHROME-TASTIC

Stephanie Hirsch, Facilitator, Academy High School

Come and discover how the Chrome browser can allow your classroom Internet activities with students to "work smarter and not harder.” Participants of this workshop will experience the breadth and depth of the Chrome browser that makes so many of the activities you use via the Internet coalesce into a creative and logical "home" for you and your students. You will have access to a site that fully supports your learning during the workshop and is available for your continued use throughout the school year.

This class will provide you with multiple ways to integrate technology in your classroom by using apps related to green screens and other forms of technology. Learn how these tools can help foster collaboration and build a stronger classroom community. iPads will be available, but feel free to bring your own device.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

All PISD Staff and students have access to Google Classroom. It’s a free, fun, and easy way to share announcements and assignments with students and also provides a convenient way for teachers to manage student enrollment and grade assignments. This session will cover how teachers log in and create classes, how students log in and join a class, how to post announcements, post assignments, grading/returning assignments, and discuss real classroom uses and applications including SPED note exchange.

Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school, and an outlet to explore their curiosity and personal interests. Information specialists will show you how to help your students locate “better” sources, evaluate their credibility, and ethically use the information they have found.
