International sponsors ‘DIY Area’ at HISWA boatshow At the recent HISWA boatshow held in Amsterdam, International were the main sponsors for a ‘DIY area’ which allowed selected exhibitors to provide a technical and practical workshop to demonstrate their products & services. The Dutch team used this opportunity to promote our varnish range and a ‘Micron 3 litre’ campaign. Several presentations by Co van Gameren on the use of antifouling and varnishes were given daily to boat owners and enthusiasts and a professional applicator gave demonstrations on how to apply our varnishes. Being the main sponsor, International benefited from some great brand exposure within the DIY area with the use of 6 large International banners and coverage of the ‘Micron 3 Litre’ campaign video being displayed on 300 LCD screens situated throughout the entire venue. Customers were informed in advance of this event via distribution of a local e-newsletter, a hyperlink on ‘yachtpaint.com’ and information on the HISWA website. Approximately 30 boaters and trade customers attended the one hour presentation and they stayed over for a buffet afternoon which was offered by the Maltese distributor Mac Med Ltd’s general manager, Mr. Andrew Magri Overend. The seminar focused on Micron 77, the ‘intelligent SPC antifouling’ and the reasons why it performs so well. Maltese boaters have a lot of experience of applying Micron 66 and more recently Micron 77, but didn’t really know why it is such a special antifouling. Whilst the presentation was slightly technical, it was well received and several queries were gathered at the end of the session. Some small give-aways were also made available by International and Mac Med for the guests to take away with them at the end of the seminar. The prize for this prestigious award is a cheque worth 15,000SEK or 1,600 (equivalent) and is jointly contributed by the Swedish International yacht team and the yachting publication ‘Båtliv’ which is distributed to members of all Swedish yacht clubs. In Sweden, there are over 900 yacht clubs with over 190,000 members and nominations are invited through Båtliv magazine for this award. The stipulation is that the nominee has to be someone who is respected and recognised for doing outstanding voluntary work for their local boating community. The ‘Thumbs Up’ award presentation was given three full pages of coverage in the Båtliv magazine and due to its popularity and interest from the Norwegian and Finnish markets, the prize was also awarded for the first time at the Oslo and Helsinki boatshows! In March, 2011 the Dubai Boat Show saw the launch of Al Dhaen Craft’s latest GRP boats which were showcased with Awlcraft ® SE as the topside finish on 5 of the new models. The boats were given a huge welcome and a new record was broken with the first of their new boats being sold after 15 minutes of the shows day 1 opening. Al Dhaen were very pleased that the product gives their fleet the high spec look that they desire as the Bahrain outfit is quickly being recognised as one of the regions premium quality boat builders. The manufacturers were very happy that within the 5 day show all their boats which were coated with Awlcraft SE were sold in the UAE. The three day event was attended by 110 exhibitors from 33 countries, encompassing a host of suppliers, refit yards, brokers, designers and marinas. The show allowed visitors into an ‘open’ boatyard area that hosted workshops and allowed companies to showcase their capabilities and forge industry contacts. Awlgrip and International were present with a dual brand stand and in addition, a dedicated area within the spray facility of Azimut-Bennetti was provided where selected visitors were able to view both brand videos and get a chance to discuss technical aspects of paint application or spraying with our ‘experts’. In total, there were 3,011 visitors and the show closed with a positive note and proved to be a success. The race sees sailors circumnavigating the globe in 5 sprints. Starting and ending in La Rochelle, France and stopping off in South Africa, Australia, Uruguay and the USA along the route. For the 2010/2011 race, International is sponsoring Chris Stanmore-Major who is a professional sailor with a proven ‘round the world’ track record to compete in his boat Spartan. Our sponsorship has involved getting the boat into tip top cosmetic condition and everything has been painted from the mast to the cockpit interior using a variety of our products. Toplac ® was used extensively above the water with Micron ® Optima being used below. Underneath the boat a large stencil of the International yachtpaint.com logo was used to help paint our brand onto the hull, so that when the boat heels in the wind our logo is clearly visible. Alongside the paint we also sponsored the costs for the topsides to be wrapped with a distinctive red and silver design. Painting the top sides was unfortunately not an option as only a two week window was available to carry out the cosmetic work. In return for the sponsorship we have a good branding presence on the boat with stickers on the mast and our logo very clearly visible on the hull. We have also received several mentions in the yachting and UK national press. From Charleston the boat will also be branded with the International logo on the main sail. The race is still underway and Chris is currently in fourth place on the last leg of the race crossing the North Atlantic from Charlestown to La Rochelle.
