Step 1 Reinforcement of existing knowledge
Which fruits do you remember in Spanish? Re-cap known fruits by holding up picture of the fruit.
Children to match & stick the word flashcard next to the corresponding fruit.

Step 2 – introduction of new vocabulary and syntax
‘Yo fui al Mercado y compré’
Discuss with children what this means.
Practise the sentence with the addition of a fruit on the end. Holding up a picture of the fruit, children respond by repeating the sentence with the name of the fruit:
Yo fui al Mercado y compré un melon
Fruits pictures & name labels.
Step 3 - activity Set up the game – children to sit in a circle. Teacher starts by repeating the sentence ‘Yo fui al Mercado y compré’
Help & confirm responses in target language.
Children are adding to the market shopping list each time.
Children may select a flashcard to have in front of them to support. Moving towards removing a flashcard each time to enhance memory & confidence.
Children to sit in a circle waiting for their turn (may have a flashcard in front if necessary). They need to listen carefully & pay attention to the previous responses.

Continue until all children have
responded or the correct chain of fruits is broken.
If the chain is broken start the next round with the first person not to participate. Fruits should be changed at this point.
Step 4 - review Depending on the success of the game you could try it out by playing a game with no flashcards.
You could also include a wider range of fruits.
Step 5 – wrap up activity, homework, target setting
Children to make a list of all fruits they have in their home. Can they add to the list if they have other fruits?
