"2012 is expected to be a difficult year for our industry, but this should only make our association stronger and encourage us to work on collective projects. It is only through a united and collective attitude that we will be able to defend the assets and values of our sector, as we face a sports industry and fashion that is drastically evolving. Our industry sells dreams, authenticity and values that I am proud of sharing with the other member companies in our association. 2012 will be the year of services to companies, of shared efforts and benefits, of profit, of developing market strategy research, of training programs focused on products and innovation, and it will be the year where we reaffirm our collective commitment to sustainable development."

or the past 5 years, Frédéric BASSE has steered EuroSIMA both as a European captain and a symbolic President of a federation that defends the interests of the boardsports industry and

represents the men and women working together around a shared passion.

During his time as an elite surfer and wind surfer, Frédéric BASSE enjoyed exploring the world to surf the best waves. In between these surfing trips, he established himself as an entrepreneur, first as a Representative for Quiksilver and Rip Curl in the early 80’s. He then founded Rip Curl Europe in 1983 with François PAYOT and Maurice COLE, for which he is still one of the General Managers today.

economyProviding easier access to key

market dataThe economic development of the boardsports industry in Europe is one of the pillars of EuroSIMA's activities. In order to master and reinforce the ability of companies to adapt to economic and social changes in Europe, EuroSIMA has established a European economic observatory.

This observatory monitors up to date economic and social data in the boardsports industry, it also provides a business directory of boardsports companies in Europe, practical fact sheets to provide concisely presented economic data relative to the surfing, skate and snowboard markets as well as market studies to enable boardsports companies to better prepare their strategies.

MARC FARHATGENERAL MANAGER (SAS AUPA HOFF)"EuroSIMA has greatly helped us with our projects these past two years. We had to simultaneously pilot three vital projects that were key elements in satisfying our clients. These projects represent an important turning point in modernizing both Hoff as a company as well as modernizing the new services that our customers expect from us in 2012.The first project, moving to ERP, was made possible thanks to the assistance and support of the Conseil Re-gional of Aquitaine through EuroSIMA. ERP represents a total change in our computer systems, which has strongly affected our internal organization and the services we are now able to provide for our clients: Better management of our articles and clients, more reactivity in dealing with orders and deliveries, real time stock management, dema-terialization of orders and invoices.

EuroSIMA encourages innovation and offers support to innovative projects related to tech-nological and/or ecological improvement.

In addition to this support, a yearly call for pro-jects has been set up in order to detect and en-courage the emergence of innovation in boards-ports. This opportunity provides personalized and operational assistance for chosen projects, as well as up to 10 000€ in financial assistance.

An Innovation Award is also handed out each year to a EuroSIMA member company in or-der to increase potential for innovation in the boardsports industry.

Finally, EuroSIMA develops its own research programs including a project for revaluing used neoprene through recycling and reuse. Indeed, over 60 tons of used wetsuits are incinerated or buried each year in Europe. For this rea-son, the main producers of neoprene wetsuits that are members of EuroSIMA have decided to work together to try and provide a new life

The second project concerns assistance for export by participating in international trade shows, which has enabled us to establish a foothold in new countries and to improve international pre-sence of the brands we develop internally. The third project, just as important, concerns assistance through ADEVA with an R&D policy to develop new boardsports products developed under our own brands for customers who are very interested in innovation."

for these suits. This work group developed the idea of a collection chain and studied the possibilities of recycling and adding new value through a parallel solidarity based economic branch.

ecologyinnovationLUCY PALMERPROJECT MANAGER (SURFSTITCH EUROPE) ENVIRONMENT MANAGER (GSM EUROPE)"The environment commission of the EuroSIMA Cluster is a very useful and interesting tool for all companies in the boardsports industry, who are members of EuroSIMA. During the regular commission meetings, members benefit from invaluable information on differing subjects, for example REACH and Environmental labeling. Several companies have worked together in the past for the good of the whole industry: for example putting in place a charter for organizing eco-friendly events. Ecoride certification for most of the members proves the commitment of the dif-ferent companies in the industry towards working in a more environmentally friendly manner."

As the cornerstone of the environmental policy created by EuroSIMA, Ecoride is a program dedicated to supporting and assisting companies that wish to limit their Environ-mental impact.

First and foremost it provides members with eco-services to enable them to always remain informed and well ad-vised: The Ecoride newsletter, company information ser-vices, environmental management auditing, training, and technical and regulations monitoring, etc.Secondly, it pilots collective projects: environmental la-beling, neoprene recycling (p.06), REACH regulations, Eco-Event guidelines for assistance with eco-friendly event organization, etc. Finally, EuroSIMA provides an environmental manage-ment tool: the Ecoride reference guide, for companies that wish to concretely commit to the environment. This program convinced 18 companies by the end of 2011 (as opposed to 13 in 2010): Attitude Sk8, Bic Sport, Cool Shoe, GSM Europe, Holly Wood, InovEco, Notox, NSI h.o.5 group, Oxbow, Picture, Quiksilver Europe, Quiksil-ver Technical Division, Rip Curl Europe, Salomon, SAS Aupa Hoff, UWL, Völkl, Zanzibar Production.
