Ed Sheerans Music video of ‘A Team’ Was a huge inspiration throughout the process of creating our music video. We used his theme of black and white, Starting the video before the music, The idea of ‘the hocker’, Cars at night driving past the protagonist and also someone doing their hair in a mirror.

Our second influence was from a film called ‘Fishtank’, Here is where we officially got our idea for the genre. Social Realism. We’ve used and developed many key images from the film. For example the image of an estate and the horse.

Throughout the whole process we were trying to find links to the Main task and ancillary text. Once we were close to finishing the editing of the music video is when Debbie and I decided to create the Cd cover and magazine poster. I personally wanted to wait till that point because we were finally clear on our intentions and themes.

Linking the main product and ancillary texts.

MUSIC VIDEO– CD COVER

We wanted to carry on with the black and white theme because it would make no sense suddenly use bright and bold colours. The black and white represents the feeling of dull and hopelessness which the characters in the music video possess. As a group we went to town to take pictures objects and people which reminded us of the genre social realism, I was mainly taking pictures of nature and transport. I chose 6 of the pictures. I wanted to make the cd cover hard to focus on – much like the themes of social realism in our music video.

We wanted to use Debbie as the poster picture, although she is not a main feature in the music video she is the artist of the song. The picture is in black and white because the music video is too. The yellow text shows the issue date and the title of the song. Yellow is the colour of sun and hope throughout the video of ‘My Life’. The Image links to our main production task as for the ending of our music video we have chosen that Debbie should just be singing in the studio. As we have been influenced by Ed Sheeran’s a lot throughout creating the music video, the design idea was particularly influenced by Ed Sheeran’s image for example his text are in the same colours- white and yellow. Debbie Linked the poster to My CD cover that I created by using the same idea of contrasting colours, as one side is black and white and this other side is colour.

The feed back on our film was extremely positive. Showing it to students in IB film who have also been studying ‘Fishtank’ spotted the many links of images and themes. Students who have no relation to subjects linked to media were tremendously impressed. One student even mentioned at the end that it made her think of artists in the industry's music videos.
