In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

I researched into other Hip hop Magazines like “The Source“ “XXL” and “NME”. I done an analysis of the magazine NME’s front cover, contents page and double page spread

Firstly I took some images which I thought represented hip hop and was the best picture for my magazine.

After I looked at other hip hop magazines I realized the background on my first image wasn’t appropriate so I used a more professional background on my final magazine front cover image. I then analysed the magazines thoroughly and I got this information and I put into context with my own magazine and re-took my images for my magazine. I looked at what the artist is wearing in other magazines which represented hip hop so I dressed my model in appropriate clothing which related to hip hop, and I also uses a blank background which brings out the main focus of the image which is the model.I put a chain on my model because it related to hip hop and also appeals to my target audience.

Front Cover

After I looked at the magazine, I wrote down what all the magazines had in common which represents the best hip hop magazine.I looked at the layout of an XXL front cover and copied it into my own magazine. I also put down the websites of my magazine on the bottom left of my magazine and all the social networking sites which you can view and follow the magazine. I used this, because I saw it on other magazines, and also it made my magazine look more real because my target audience are more than likely to have social networking sites so they can view it online. The colours that I used are Grey and Red. I used this because it makes my magazine look more appealing and more eye-catching than jus the black and white which looked dull.I have wrote down an “exclusive interview with Kaydon” because that is what my target audience wants. I also researched the language used in other hip hop magazines and I used similar language in my own magazine. I also took ideas on the style of my magazine from XXL magazine and developed them further in my own magazine.

Contents Page

For my Contents Page I looked at many different magazines and I got the general concept from hip hop magazines such as “XXL” and “The Source”. The layout of my magazine is that I have put the images onto the left side of the magazine and the text on the right so it is easier for the user to read. I used the same theme colour which was used on my front cover which was the colour orange and grey and red colour text. “XXL” magazine also had similar layout of mine which was the images of the left and text on the right, so I applied this to my own magazine and improved it by adding a variety of images and also changing the colour of the text to make it look more appealing and it also suited the social group I was representing which was “hip-hop”. I also added the magazine website “www.vybe.com” along the top with also the date the magazine was issued “June/July”. I also added the facebook and twitter pages for the magazine on the bottom right so the customer can easily follow up the latest news online. I done this because I saw it on “The Source” magazine so I added it to my own.

Double Page Spread

For my double page spread I used the orange theme which I used throughout my magazine. I used Black and red writing which contrasts together. Firstly I wrote an introductory paragraph which tells the reader a little bit about the artist. I then went on to an exclusive interview where I asked the artist questions about his music. I included this in my magazine because I got the inspiration from other hip hop magazines. I also did a survey and 90% of them wanted an interview from the artist, so this is a great way for reader to buy my magazine because it is what they want. I added “…And his wild year in the industry” because reading that, instantly makes the reader want to read on, I also got this inspiration from the magazine called XXL; as they used an important part of the interview as their subtitle. In the interview I also used slang language from the artist, as he is a hip hop artist because in other magazines, rappers such as Lil Wayne, Chris brown, were also using slang. The layout and design are from other magazines which tend to use the same layout. I have improved my magazine by changing the layout of my magazine to make it look like a real magazine.
