INPUTS: volunteer hours andskills, Tutee time and effort,coordinators time as individualsand group, IIRI support,Swearer Center support,applicants, funding!
ACTIVITIES: Tutoing,Mentoring, VDMs, enrichment
activities, i.e. zoo days andpark, art projects, meetings,
training for volunteers, writtenapplication and interview !
OUTPUTS: 3 hours tutoringper week, trained volunteers,progress reports, money in
match funds for IIRI, x numberof volunteers selected!
OUTCOMES!I. Short-term: tutor-tutee
relationships, improved language
skills, Brown Students more familiar
with Providence, bi-directional
cultural learning, greater ability toparticipate in school, relief for IIRI
staff, handing in homework.!II. Long-term: Increased confidence for
refugees, raised awareness aboutrefugee resettlement, expertise in
running an organization for student
leaders, cultural awareness and
intimate understanding of institutional
inequality.!

OUTPUTS:! Art Projects and Events:!
!- Indicator: BRYTE kids and tutors engaged in making art, event!!- Target: Events for the BRYTE community or showcasing artwork done by BRYTEparticipants !!- Timeline: one event (either community or Art) per semester!
Trained and Informed Volunteers:!- Indicator: volunteers feeling prepared for tutoring, understanding boundaries of their role,
and having access to information for enrichment activities (including additional supportservices refugees can access)!
- Target: Volunteers will have packets, and continual trainings as well coordinator support !- Timeline: By fall 2010 these materials will be compiled, and trainings planned out !
Tutoring and Enrichment activities for Volunteer-Refugee pairs:!- Indicator: weekly progress report tracking hours and summarizing session!- Target: at least 3 hours/week per pair; !- Timeline: Ongoing!

OUTCOMES:! Short-term: Improved language skills! Long-term: increased confidence, eased
integration challenges, greater access to resources in community!! !- indicator: volunteer measured progress over the course of a year, refugees more comfortablespeaking, and accessing other resources i.e. after school programs!! !- Target: Customized effective tutoring!! !- Timeline: measurement at the end of every semester!
Short-term: Brown students more aware of refugee resettlement experience!increased awareness of: institutional inequalities in the U.S., overall culturalawareness !!! !- Indicator: volunteers speaking about these issues, and being supportive of families (observedby coordinator) !! !- Target: BRYTE alums and volunteers more proactive voices!! !- Timeline: ongoing, 2010-2011 explicit engagement with these themes!
Partnerships: between students and refugees, volunteers and coordinators, BRYTEand community organizations!! !- Indicator: commitment of volunteers and coordinators, appreciation from the IIRI, activeinteraction with community partners, refugee families feeling support/friendship!! !- Target: strong and sustainable relationships on all these fronts!! !- Timeline: short-term between individuals in BRYTE, continuous between BRYTE asorganization and community partners as well as refugee community !
