represent particular social groups?

In ACID Magazine my media product corresponds to the younger audience. Generally, my magazine is targeted towards older teenagers and young adults (16-25). The audience is generally specified for the female audience even though it can be read by males as well. I wanted to use females as the main target because the music industry is more focussed on the male dominance of singers and bands. It is also a fact that the majority of music magazines are for a male audience. Its come to my attention that female magazines are usually using the basis of feminine colours and pop icons (like One direction, Taylor Swift, ect). I wanted to give the appeal to girls with a different taste in music (corresponding to house music and the party scene) this would mean that the audience would be of down to earth females. Despite i have used a white female as my cover artist, House music as a genre is generally produced from a variety of races. For example, Daft Punk are famous french-house Duo, Frankie Knuckles is a Chicago based black American house DJ, and Deadmau5 is a Canadian electro-house DJ.

The way in which i have portrayed the social group in my magazine is mostly through the chosen model on the front cover. Many of the models props and the way she dresses corresponds to the electro scene. For starters, her headphones signify a common logo for a DJ meaning that she is possibly a DJ as well, it is also worth noting that vinyl is a significant trait of a DJ as well as they are used to remix and sample on DJ decks. Her makeup is also very futuristic which fits in with the electronic-house genre and her hair is green signifying this as well and that she is a quirky individual. The way her skin has been editted makes her more alien like or cyber like which again can come into the electronic look.
