How effective is the combination of your main product and the ancillary texts?

(Evaluation)

Main Product

Our production was created in order to create a piece of drama unlike what the audience may have seen before. The subject matter of extreme OCD we thought would be interesting to some, as it has not frequently been addressed in a fictional medium, usually featuring in television documentaries.

Ancillary product’s purpose

I feel that the subject matter of the film was made clear in the two ancillary products. After researching into advertisement, we found that the quality of products like posters, DVD covers, trailers and radio trailers can effect the audience that the primary product attracts.

Examples of other posters Before creating our own poster, we looked at

other examples from independent drama films:

First ancillary product: Poster

We created a few drafts of the poster, initially deciding we wanted the notebook and pens image to be the iconic picture of the film.

The title of the film is surrounded by a glow to draw attention to it.

The stars on the film are on the head of the image.

The text on the bottom of the poster is in keeping with convention.

Image of scattered paper appears in the film.

Second ancillary product: Radio trailer

Before making our own radio trailer we researched into others in order to see what conventions the trailers have.

We found that drama films are less likely to have a radio trailer because the subject matter is not often appropriate for marketing of this nature.

The combination of the ancillary products an the main texts very effective because key themes and motifs of the main product are introduced before the audience sees the film. It is also important that the ancillary products are well done in themselves in order to hint to the quality of the film itself, which I believe the two texts are.
