How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?

My group and I decided that we wanted an ongoing theme throughout the three items we were going to produce in order to allow our target audience to relate each product with one another. We decided to use a blue colour scheme in order to represent new beginnings in order to relate to our song ‘stitches’ and its lyrics that state, ‘ still, I adore the taste of rain’. The associated colour with rain is blue, and rain can suggest a new beginning as it is washing away everything that has been there before. For example, in the magazine advert there are two shades of blue for the font at the top of the page, and they are being placed over a blue sky. In the music video, we used a subtle blue wash effect over every shot in the video, one of the band members was wearing a blue shirt, and the scarf that was at the focal point of the video was also blue. Finally, the digipack also uses blue font throughout and every band member is wearing a blue item of clothing.

We also decided that we wanted the same font throughout the tasks in order to further push the relationship between the products and to allow our target audience to associate the band with the font in order to establish a brand identity. This would have an effect on the consumer in terms of the likelihood of them purchasing the CD from a shop or online, as they will be able to recognise the band instantly through the fonts and the colour scheme. The font is used in the magazine advert for the title and for all of the information included on the advert, it was used in the digipack throughout every section, and it was also used at the very beginning of the music video where the title of the song and the band appear.

Conclusion My group and I wanted to target teenagers as they were the largest group of people that listened to Indie music

and the feedback that we received from our target audience was very positive. Our target audience also picked up on certain aspects of our products such as the fonts and colour schemes, as one of our interviewees say in the audience feedback video, ‘you use the same font, so it looks like the Dykeenies font’. This shows that these small factors are making a large difference in the marketability of the band and the song. It shows that the three products work very well in conjunction with one another as target audience is successfully identifying certain characteristics of the products and are relating it back to the band itself.
