For the 2013 Liturgical Year the Sunday readings are Year C and the weekday readings are from Year I.

The liturgical colors that mark the different seasons and observances are indicated on the dates in each month: Green for Ordinary Time; White/Gold for the seasons of Easter and Christmas, feasts of Our Lord, Mary, angels, and saints who are not martyrs; Red for Pentecost, martyrs, and feasts of the apostles and evangelists; Purple/Violet for Advent and Lent.

THE CALENDAR

The Year of Faith declared by Benedict XVI will begin on October 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, October 11, 1992.

Pope Benedict called the Year of Faith to strengthen Catholics who go to church, reach out to those who have left but still yearn for God in their lives, offer a response to those who are searching for meaning and help those who think they do not need God.

It is intended to contribute to a renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscover of faith, so that the members of the Church will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world today - capable of leading many to the “door of faith.”

Il Calendario per il 2013 di Famiglia del Prezioso Sangue presenta immagini del Sangue di Cristo dal quale siamo stati segnati e salvati. Dall’inizio della storia della salvezza, il sangue ebbe un ruolo importante nei riti del popolo d’Israele: il sangue sull’architrave delle case, il sangue degli animali offerti in sacrificio a Dio, il sangue asperso sull’altare e sul popolo per ricevere una nuova opportunità di vita con Dio e il rinnovo dell’alleanza con Dio.

Tutti questi rituali erano ombra ed immagine del sangue di Cristo che finalmente avrebbe rimpiazzato tutti quei sacrifici e riti con un sacrificio unico e perfetto, offrendo se stesso come vittima immacolata una volta per sempre e istruendo noi a farlo misticamente come lui aveva fatto nell’Ultima Cena sotto le specie di Pane e Vino.

La Chiesa insegna l’importanza e la ricchezza dei segni del pane e del vino, ed inculca una partecipazione più piena ai misteri che celebriamo, sempre mantenendo fermi gli insegnamenti del Concilio di Trento e del Vaticano II sulla presenza di Cristo nell’Eucaristia: “I principi domatici stabiliti dal Concilio di Trento rimangono intatti, la Comunione sotto le due specie può essere concessa quando il Vescovo ritiene opportuno, non solo al clero e ai religiosi, ma anche ai laici.”1 Difatti, ci sono aspetti della comunione sotto i due elementi che migliorano ed arricchiscono la celebrazione quando sono eseguiti esclusivamente per promuovere la devozione, il rispetto e l’amore all’Eucaristia. Quando i simboli ed i segni sono valorizzati e spiegati, si possono

raccogliere più facilmente i benefici voluti da Gesù stesso con l’istituzione. Questo sacramento così grande e datore di vita dovrebbe essere di stimolo per la nostra vita e di Buona Notizia da

condividere con i nostri famigliari ed amici. L’evangelizzazione non finisce mai. Apprezzando sempre più questo tesoro meraviglioso della nostra fede, siamo invitati ad “aprire le porte”P della fede perché gli altri possano percepire le meraviglie che Dio opera per noi.

La porta della fede si apread ogni liturgia eucaristicaper farci entrare nella pienezza di comunione con Dioe tra di noi.

The Precious Blood Family calendar for 2013 features images of the Blood of Christ by which we have been signed and saved. From the beginning of the history of salvation, blood played an important role in the rituals of the people of Israel: blood on the doorpost of the homes, the blood of animals offered in sacrifice to God, blood sprinkled on the altar and the people as a way of receiving God’s life anew and renewing the covenant with God.

All the rituals were a foreshadowing and image of the blood of Christ who ultimately was going to replace all those sacrifices and rituals with one perfect sacrifice, offering himself as the unblemished victim once for all and commending us to do it mystically as he had done at the Last Supper under the species of Bread and Wine.

The Church teaches the importance of the richness of the signs of Bread and Wine, and promotes a fuller participation in the mysteries we celebrate, always firmly upholding the pronouncements of the Council of Trent and Vatican II about the presence of Christ in the Eucharist: “The dogmatic principles which were laid down by the Council of Trent remaining intact, Communion under both kinds may be granted when the bishops think fit, not only to clerics and religious, but also to the laity…”1 In fact, there are aspects of communion under both species that will enhance and enrich the celebration when implemented positively to foster devotion, respect and love for the Eucharist. When the signs and symbols are valued and explained, we can better reap the

benefits intended by Jesus himself who instituted them. This profound and life-giving sacrament should make an impact on our lives and be the Good News to pass on to family

and friends. Evangelization is never over. As we come to appreciate more fully this wondrous treasure of our faith, we are called to “open the door” of faith that others may perceive, ever anew, the marvels that God works for us.

VEN. JOHN MERLINI

John Merlini, the third Moderator General of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, was

captivated by the zeal of St. Gaspar, whom John XXIII called “the greatest apostle of the Precious Blood.” Merlini was attracted by Precious Blood spirituality as the means of his own sanctification and the tool of his ministry.

We ask you to join us in praying for the cause of his sainthood and notify us of miracles

Giovanni Merlini, terzo moderatore Generale dei Missionari del Preziosissimo Sangue,

fu conquistato dallo zelo di San Gaspare, che Giovanni XXIII chiamò “Il più grande apostolo del Sangue di Cristo.” Merlini fu attratto dalla spiritualità del Sangue Prezioso, mezzo della sua santificazione e strumento del suo ministero.

Chiediamo l’aiuto delle vostre preghiere perché egli pervenga agli onori degli altari, e di
