Acharya expressed confidence that the protracted Naga political issue would be resolved within 2019 and Nagaland will then become one of the most vibrant and economically independent states among 28 states. A report by Nagaland Post quoted the outgoing Governor saying, “2019 year will be the happiest year for the Nagas. I am 100% sure” adding that sentiments and the goal of Nagas should be respected and identity has to be upheld and Nagaland have to march with triple jet speed for economical development. Acharya, who will be handing over charge to the new incumbent R.N. Ravi said he was positive that Nagaland will rise to be among the top states in the country and in this regard, appealed to the empowered Nagas living in other parts of the country and abroad to return and strengthen the lives and system at home. Acharya has completed his five-year tenure and an official farewell programme is expected to be held sometime next week. During his tenure, Acharya though in his ripe age of 88 years, toured the length and breadth of Nagaland and personally interacted with the people. He was unassuming and always had a heart for the poor and downtrodden. Acharya is not a stranger to Nagaland. He had set foot in Nagaland since the early 60s and had also met the state’s first chief minister P.Shilu Ao. Acharya said he had experienced both bitter and sweet during his tenure as Governor but would always cherish the love, respect and Naga solution by 2019: Acharya fellowship he had with the people during the past five years. The outgoing Governor said he was hopeful that the PDA government would ensure political stability, ensure progress and bring change and put behind the political instability witnessed during the last four years. Concerned with the quality of education, Acharya lamented on the poor performances of government schools though they had well qualified and highly paid teachers. Hitting out at this syndrome, the Governor opined that it was because there were teachers with dubious qualifications or some appointed through backdoor. In addition, he expressed regrets that even mid-day meal scheme existed only in paper while schools or colleges had no library worth the name nor proper infrastructure. He felt that government must take strong action against this anomaly and strengthen the students at the primary level. He reminded that students in government schools belonged to the poorest sections who should also be empowered. Acharya said the university must take this up on the agenda to initiate dialogue with industries, trade and commerce, natural resources with the educational system and academics. He also stressed on inculcating work culture among Nagas instead of expecting easy money and dependability on government. On what would be his future role after demitting office, Acharya said that being a social activist and from the BJP, he would remain at the disposal of his party if needed. He also expressed a desire to be at the disposal of Nagaland if needed. Asked to comment on corruption, Acharya said it was very high in Nagaland. He said it was the most dangerous and destructive disease which the government must act against those involved. On RIIN, Acharya said people should not be confused with RIIN or ILP with NRC. He said NRC was for national citizens and its primary purpose was to prevent illegal immigrants. He said ILPP does not deal with immigrants but with Indian citizens who need to have permit to enter into the state. He said to strengthen Nagaland, any service giver(employee) should be welcomed but ensure that their Indian citizenship does not conflict with RIIN . He insisted that NRC must be given preference which was for integrity and security of the country. On eastern Nagaland, he said ENPO people were suffering and that their issues has to be addressed. The governor said justice should be done in all aspect and that there should be no discrimination. Agency Kohima, July 21, Appointment of Government of India’s Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, RN Ravi as the governor of Nagaland has surprises NSCN-IM , a report said. Nagaland based civil bodies are of the opinion that the move of the Centre to appoint Ravi who has been the Interlocutor and instrumental for the signing of the ‘Framework Agreement’ with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015 has come as a bolt from the blue for many. However, not wishing to speculate on anything at the moment, executive member of the steering committee of NSCN (IM) V Horam said the GoI can appoint any individual to be a Governor of a state even if the person happens to be the interlocutor. Appreciating the service rendered by Ravi on the negotiation table during his time, Horam said the NSCN (IM) wishes him the best. Alezo Venuh, envoy to collective leadership, GPRN/ NSCN, and co-ordinator in the ongoing political dialogue between NNPGs and the GoI said the appointment has come as a surprise. Ve n u h also declined to comment further on the issue while stating that any statement from their side would be done only Appointment of RN Ravi as Governor of Nagaland receives mix response after consulting with the rest of the Working Committee member, a report in the Morung Express said. Ravi was also instrumental in signing the second agreement with the Working Committee (WC) of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on November 17, 2017. Welcoming Ravi who has been a “friend of the Naga people” as the new Governor, Naga Hoho president Chuba Ozukum however observed that Ravi’s appointment will have both positive and negative implications. On the positive side, he said Ravi would be the most capable person as the Governor to implement the contents of the Indo-Naga political agreement, if it sees reality. On the other hand, Ozukum said the new interlocutor who would be appointed in Ravi’s place would have a hard time since he or she would have to start from scratch. “This would also mean the negotiation may drag on for a longer period.” Or maybe, the GoI is just trying to buy time or delay the peace process without bringing any political solution, the Naga Hoho president further speculated. Social activist and Academician Rosemary Dzuvichu noted that the Nagas cannot afford to be “pessimistic at this stage” and further expressed that Ravi’s appointment as “Governor considering his knowledge on the Northeast and Naga issue gives hope that more results are met.” Peace Activist, Niketu Iralu considered the appointment as a “good sign.” Something good is going to happen in Nagaland as no other Indian has deep knowledge on the Naga political dialogue than RN Ravi, he said, further expressing hope that a “faster and more fruitful negotiations will be met given his full time presence at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima rather than in New Delhi.” Missing Girl swept by Imphal river found IT News Imphal July 21, Out of the two girls which was swept away by the Imphal River along Mahabali Mathak Leikai yesterday evening 4.30pm, the lifeless missing body was found today around 2 in the evening .
