Not so long ago, retail businesses were quite different to what we know them as today. Customerswould walk into a corner store and be handed a package by the owner who knew exactly whatthey took home everyday. They’d hand over some change and walk home – transactioncomplete. One checkout stand, one inventory, one currency, and a customer-base thestoreowner knew by name. Very cozy, very manageable.

Today, with new technology and constantly evolving markets, the game has changedconsiderably. Your retail reality today is most likely multiple stores, credit accounts, Internetshopping, supply chain intricacies, mail order catalogs, online shipping and tracking, RMAsand instant electronic payment. Add to this multi-currency and inventory running into millionsof dollars and it only makes it more complex.

So, what do you do to get on top of it and how do you get there, ahead of your competition?

Today’s answers lie in the ‘right’ technologyGiven this challenging retail landscape, today’s retailers need automation software capableof meshing all possible retail channels, multi-location, delivering timely intelligence all at thesame time. POS systems that need to let you sell anywhere, integrate with everything, andhandle shipping with ease. . . . . And to top it all, if they were seamless, that would definitely help, wouldn’t it?

When software solutions are a dime-a-dozen, it would be wise to know what benefits theyreally deliver. Questions you should then ask: ‘Will it give me quick return on my investment?‘Can it scale up to grow with my expanding business? Has the solution proven in itself in abusiness like mine? Is it secure? Is the system key to my profitability tomorrow? Will it meet myunique retail needs? Does it give my managers clear and objective information for them tomake accurate decisions? Will it impact getting my merchandize to the right place at the righttime?’

Profit from your solution…and moreWhen retailers choose the right software – dollars are streamlined across the board rightdown to the bottom line, gaining them market share and higher ROI’s quickly. Right systemsare increasingly expected to help businesses build loyal customers, improve profitability andoptimize everyday functions.Integrating sales from different venues, handling web receipts, in-store revenues, coping withdelivery issues, varying taxes and inventories. For all this you NEED one consolidated system.

Security – Need basedEverest offers you multiple layers of security to protect your business information. There’ssecurity at the application level, security at the company-level for users and user groups andsecurity based on functions. Profile level and field level security also build that impregnablering, as do security for critical user-defined data, security for access to information, globalsecurity as well as screen level security.

Only a user who has been granted access to the selected company database can login intoEverest, with enhanced security coming via embedded passwords.

Multiple contact/shipping addresses also enable a customer to have multiple login names andpasswords for your Everest Enterprise E-commerce website.

Access to cash registers is at two levels- one as a Store manager and one as a regular SalesRep - and is controlled using the cash register lock/unlock toggle. The stores manager is assignedthe right to open any cash register while a user is only allowed to access his or her cash registervia a unique password. This prevents unauthorized use of a cash register when it is left un-tended.

Cash drawers normally open only when you ring a sale, but situations do arise when counterstaff need to open them in between transactions- to get change, for instance. Everest lets youkeep a count of how many times a drawer was opened.

Trace all the customers whose credit limits have been enhanced in a period and the user whomodified them - event logs help to fix responsibility for actions.

‘Reasons for returns’ has special relevance for a business owner/manager as it helps in analysisof customer behavior over and above the sales aspect. It’s a key method to ascertain why thereare many returns.

Customer Management – Building loyalty for youYou can use Everest’s unlimited custom fields to profile items, vendors orcustomers, and also specify a list of values for each custom field. Documenttracking and custom fields in documents can be used to track demographicsof customers in POS.

Process control ties in with custom tracking. In Everest, for example, youmay have a process that permits only quotes approved by sales managersto be converted to orders. Custom tracking is possible for items, customers, vendors and documents.

Document Tracking is the essential feature that is used to show customerstheir order and shipment status.

The customer history, document history and item sales history options inEverest help you negotiate prices and payments with a customer. Thecustomer’s account summary from the customer browser contains all relevantinformation.

11

Inventory Control – In real time

12

Creating an item matrix makes order entry simple for similar items distinguished by color, sizeetc. Stocks of matrix items are maintained at the matrix item level, allowing you to see the stockof a matrix as a function of its attributes.

Everest permits the setting-up of item matrices with SKUs having 5 attributes with any numberof options for an attribute. Beyond apparel, this is useful in the case of industrial products likePVC pipes with options such as nominal size, minimum inside diameter, wall thickness, color, and socket type.

Everest generates serial numbers when items are purchased, and they can be tracked for ameaningful history. You can also identify the manufacturer’s serial number for an item, thevendor, its actual cost and the number of days it has been in stock.

You can track lot numbers selectively in Everest. When the item is received, you can enter thequantities assigned in each lot.

Once the serial numbers have been generated, you can print your own barcode labels of eitherinternal or manufacturer serial numbers and attach them to the products. This enables you topermanently track and distinguish items in a unique manner, enabling the scanning of inventoryto speed data entry in the shipping process.

Whatever the cycles of counting inventory against book stocks, whether per week, per month, etc., Everest adjusts for your methodology of stocktaking, adjusting differences and recordingreasons for shortages.

Andy FieldBusiness Now - TV Show

“... this entire “business-in-a-box” is literally saving smallcompanies millions. It’s streamlined so much of the Salesand Inventory work that Stores can do more with less andstill stay close to their clients.

Case-in-Point: ACT Retail, Inc.

Situation

ACT Retail is a predominantly retail-

oriented business involved in the province

of computer hardware and accessories.

This US-based operation, virtually a one-

man-show, needed an integrated, cost-

effective business management solution to

manage inventory, track items and bring

their POS in sync. The owner was clear he

required a system that would knit seamlessly

with his crucial accounting function, and

hoped to derive ‘intelligence’ benefits from

information exchange.

In the busy and competitive IT retailing

domain, ACT had to get the edge from their

solution to compete more effectively against

the next rung of player- and they had to

get it at a cost which wouldn’t prove

crippling. They reviewed various solutions.

Most were too limiting in terms of

functionality, none were affordable, and

customization was simply not an option.

How ACT Retail beat the odds

ACT implemented Everest. Now their Item

Tracking and RMAs work without a hitch,

allowing them to track returned goods and

tag them for exchange, replacement,

refund etc. Warranties that used to be a

nightmare are handled with ease. And this

retailer loves the aesthetics of the websites

that are attracting new customers for him.

For ACT, it ’s all come together

professionally with Everest. And his budget

concerns? He got the perfect combination-

affordable functionality.

Icode Services

Pre-ImplementationPre-Implementation acts as a gateway to a smooth transition, integrating our software into your business seamlessly, and helpingdevelop a framework from the existing software (in use) to Everest.

An assigned domain expert will guide you in successfully deployingthe software by reviewing key indicators of your business, analyzingyour network and financial data and, working off-site, assist you inthe installation process.

Remote ServicesProviding assistance via the Internet is a prime example of using themedium to its full potential. Trouble-shooting and training over theInternet is adopted since it’s cost-effective and quick, two crucial factorsfor any organization. This methodology allows you to have your ownpersonal instructor helping you with the ‘nitty-gritty’ of the installation. What’s more, glitches can be smoothened out without your having tospend on travel or lodging.

Onsite ServicesIn spite of using remote services like the Internet, sometimes it’simperative that you have our expert there with you onsite. He or shecan take over from where the pre-implementation engineer signedoff, to provide assistance. This specialist will check your hardware setup, train organizationalstaff of different departments, perform a Q & A session, and assistwith any problems you or your staff may have regarding the software.Onsite training will prove extremely beneficial for multiple users andyour staff would feel better equipped to handle the new software.

Fusion LearningAlso known as Blended or Incremental learning, this is where Pre-implementation, Remote and Onsite services act in harmony to yourbest possible advantage. This phase allows you and your staff toadapt to the software at your pace, making allowance for the factthat every employee has a different level of software competency.Starting with simple tasks before moving on to more complexcapabilities of the software, this customized teaching program makesthe usage of Everest seem effortless and uncomplicated.

I m p l e m e n t a t i o n , T r a i n i n g & S u p p o r t

Training & Technical SupportWe at Icode recognize the significant role that onsite training andimplementation of the software plays. We also know that training andimplementation would be useless if there was no support to augment thesefunctions. The long-term success of a business would depend on the synergybetween all three. After all, no matter how feature-rich the business softwaremay be, one can only maximize the overall efficiency by investing in properprocedures, end-user training, and ongoing support.

We do not recommend cutting corners when it comes to end-user training. Theway we look at it, you can save thousands a year if you have one fewer employeemanaging the same tasks, so deploying Everest directly spells savings. Size isnot always a determinant when it comes to the levels of training a companyrequires. Some companies may have experienced bookkeepers and in-houseaccountants but may lack a strong MIS staff. Others may have an experiencedNetwork Administration department but may be weak in Accounting Principles. Some companies may be strong or weak in both. After years of experience, wehave found success in letting you control the level of training your businessneeds. After all, who better than a business owner would know his businessinside out?

Training SeminarsOur training seminars are a must-attend for all those who want a betterunderstanding of the product. They are designed as an interactive classroomsession where you get to see, listen and understand the product much better.Benefits of our training seminars include:

• Get in-depth training on how to properly implement the Everest product linefor your business

• Learn about workflow processes and concepts that cannot be conveyedthrough end user documentation

• Get systematic and uninterrupted training in an interactive classroomenvironment

• Get the latest information about the direction of Everest including upcomingenhancements and third party product support

• Provide a mechanism for ongoing training of your new employees• Meet with members of the Icode Sales and Support team
