A Message from the MayorIn addition, Auburn is in the center of a wonderful network of trails, with the Interurban reaching all the way to Seattle and a growing connection to the Foothills Trails leading the way to Mount Rainier.
Welcome to Auburn with real neighborhoods, where people still talk to each other, walk down the streets and send genera-tions of children through an outstanding school sys-tem, including our 'Little Harvard on the Hill', Green River Community College, a campus built among the trees, nestled high on the hill above us. There are
neighborhoods a hundred years old and others that are brand new with all the amenities of a warm and vibrant community and a wonderful park system that's second to none. You are welcome in Au-burn, a community of over 70,000 people who truly believe they live in a small town and whose motto includes their core belief for in Auburn we are More Than You Imagined!

Newcomers’ Information
Welcome to Auburn, one of the older cities in the region with a big heart and innovative culture. We are the City of Parades, from our Children's 4th of July Parade to the larg-est Veteran's Day Parade west of the Mississippi. Our Good Ol' Days Parade has gone on for more than a century and our Santa Parade fills the streets with children and the air with song as we celebrate and light the city tree.
Welcome to the cul-tural center for arts and entertainment across two counties. We are home to the largest performing arts center in the area, with the state's largest horse track at Emerald Downs on one end of town and the White River Amphitheater on the other. We have a thriving live theater in the heart of downtown. Pacific Raceways is not far away, and the SuperMall of the Great Northwest is close
at hand. Not to mention the Auburn Municipal Golf Course and the UW's home course, Washington Na-tional, just minutes away from work or home.
Welcome to the transpor-tation center of a region where, in truth, all roads lead to Auburn. We are in the center of the region where all corridors north and south, east and west pass through our city with commuter trains and express buses already a reality here. The Auburn Airport (Dick Scobee Field) is the third largest com-muter airport in the state.

4 EVERYTHING AUBURN 2012 Residents’ Guide
Welcome to the Auburn School District! The district is centrally located between Seattle and Tacoma, at the center of the Green River Valley of South King County. The district encompasses approximately 60 square miles and serves a popu-lation of 70,000 residents. More than 14,600 students attend Auburn’s 22 schools. The district strives for aca-demic excellence. A broad range of programs pro-vide students oppor-tuni-ties to excel. The district motto, “Engage, Educate, Empower” represents the commitment to student suc-cess.Our students are amazing
citizens. Our schools provide the local food bank and blood bank with generous
donations to support the needs of the community. Students excel in academ-ics, arts, debate, and lead-ership activities. Journalism, music, robotics, career and technical, athletics, year-book, and associated stu-dent body are examples of programs where students garner state and national recognition.Partnership with Commun-
ities in Schools, City of Auburn, Auburn Youth Resources, Boys and Girls Clubs, White River Museum, Junior Achievement, and YMCA result in an array of programs where students thrive academically and socially. High school and middle school career fairs, Reaching Out Fair, and gang prevention events foster
healthy community actions that build on the strengths of our youth. Parades, Good Ol’ Days, and youth days create a community spirit that nurtures the develop-ment of our children. Our future is promising
as our students have made dramatic improvement in reading and math pro-ficiency. Also, our schools develop both the academic skills and character of our children. The Auburn School District
champions its diversity. The richness of the cultures that represent our student body is an asset to student learn-ing. The school board pro-vides strategic leadership for the continuous improve-ment of our schools. Our community supports our
levies in even the tough-est of times knowing that a child’s education is para-mount.Dr. Dennis (Kip) Herren

Did you know? In 2011, through our customer referral program, we donated 25,7000 lbs. of fresh food to area food banks through Rotary First Harvest.
Refer a customer and they buy a vehicle, $200 goes to you. Better yet, even if they don’t buy, 300lbs. of food is donated to this worthy cause. Since 2007 the total is 170,000 lbs. of food provided. We are proud of the part we play in helping those in need. REPORTER .co
