Ans: The valency of the element means the number of hydrogen atom attached to that element.

8. Write 2 differences between symbol and formula.

Ans: 1) The short expression of molecule of compound is called formula. The short expression of element is called symbol.

2) To write formula, we need to know about valency. But to write symbol, valency is not required.

9. What is chemical equation?

Ans: A chemical equation is a shortened expression of a chemical reaction.

10. HCl + NaOH =NaCl + H2O; What type of reaction is it? Explain.

Ans: The above reaction is neutralized reaction. Here HCl is an acid and NaOH is a base. We know that, the reaction between acid and base produces salt and water. Here NaCl is a salt.

HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O

Page 24: evsjv‡`k B›Uvib¨vkbvj ¯‹yj GÛ K‡jRbisc.com.bd/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Std.-VIII... · Your friend is Mahir/ Maida. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend

11. C + O2 = CO2

Is the above reaction of both addition and combustion? Explain logically.

Ans: The above reaction is both addition and combustion reaction because –

A chemical reaction in which more than one element combined to produce a new kind of chemical substance is called addition reaction. Here C and O is combined with each other and produce CO2.

On the other hand, when a substance is burnt in presence of oxygen or air to produce a different

compound, the reaction is called combustion reaction. Here C is burnt due to the reaction with O and

produce CO2.

That is why the reaction is both addition and combustion reaction.

12. KClO3 -KCl + O2

Complete the equation and explain which kind of reaction it is.

Ans: 2KClO3 -> 2KCl + 3O2.

The above reaction is decomposition reaction. A chemical reaction where the decomposition of a compound occurs to form more than one compound is called decomposition reaction. Here potassium

chlorate decomposes by heating and form potassium chloride and oxygen gas.

The Idea of security

Security concerns

1. malicious software: virus, worm, trojan horse

2. cyber crime: hackers, spam

security provided for both hardware and software

Captcha: It is a process to differ a man and a machine/robot

Nowadays, even after entering the right password the user does not get the success.

The user has to type some deformed letters that he can easily understand, but impossible for a machine

or a robot.

Firewall : The invisible security wall is called the firewall.

Combination of hardware and software.

Outsiders can’t enter and insiders can’t pass information to outside.

Hacking: In spite of tight security measures, devious people entering other users’ personal sites, watch,

make copy, and sometimes destroy their information through internet without knowing the users’

concern is called hacking

Page 33: evsjv‡`k B›Uvib¨vkbvj ¯‹yj GÛ K‡jRbisc.com.bd/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Std.-VIII... · Your friend is Mahir/ Maida. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend

Password: is used to ensure security while passing through the network. The password is given in such a

secret way that no one can guess anything. But special type of robot has been discovered to obtain the

password

Data centre: The big storehouse of information is called ‘Data centre’

Measures are taken to protect it from mechanical disorder, damage, fire, earthquake and criminal

attack.

Types of Malware

Lesson 16

What is Malware?

The term “malware” refers to harmful software that disrupts or manipulates an electronic device’s

normal operation. Malware can infect personal computers, smart phones, tablets, servers and even

equipment — basically any device with computing capabilities.

What is Worm?

A Worm is a self-propagating program that works its way through a system or network (like the

Internet), often causing damage. It does not require a host program to activate it. Someone has to

insert a worm directly into network of interconnected computers

Example Worms

Alarm Clock Worm. A worm that reaches out through the network to an outgoing terminal (one

equipped with a modem), and places wake-up calls to a list of users.

Worm Watcher. A special program which automatically takes steps to limit the size of a worm, or

shut it down, it grows beyond a certain limit. The worm watcher also maintains a running log

recording

A computer virus A computer virus is malicious code that replicates by copying itself to another program,

computer boot sector or document and changes how a computer works. The virus requires

someone to knowingly or unknowingly spread the infection without the knowledge or

permission of a user or system administrator

A resident virus is a kind of computer virus that hides and stores itself within the computer

memory, which then allows it to infect any file that is run by the computer, depending on

the virus' programming.

This virus may be one of the worst kinds as they can affect the system thoroughly even attaching

itself to anti-virus applications which allows it to infect any file scanned by the program.

A special virus removal tool that can extract the virus from the memory is required in most

cases.

A few examples of this kind of virus are Jerusalem Virus, One-half virus, Magistr, Junkie,

Satanbug etc.

A non-resident virus is a computer virus that does not store or execute itself from the computer

memory. Executable viruses are an example of a non resident virus.

A non-memory-resident virus (or “non-resident virus”), when executed, scans the disk for

targets, infects them, and then exits (i.e. it does not remain in memory after it is done executing).

Apr 26, 2017 - An executable virus is a non resident computer virus that stores itself in

an executable file and infects other files each time the file is run.

– Adware: The least dangerous and most lucrative Malware. Adware displays ads on your computer.

Page 34: evsjv‡`k B›Uvib¨vkbvj ¯‹yj GÛ K‡jRbisc.com.bd/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Std.-VIII... · Your friend is Mahir/ Maida. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend

– Trojan: The most dangerous Malware. Trojans are written with the purpose of discovering your financial information, taking over your computer’s system resources,

and in larger systems creating a “denial-of-service attack ” Denial-of-service attack: an

attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to those attempting to reach

it. Example: AOL, Yahoo or your business network becoming unavailable

– Rootkit: This one is likened to the burglar hiding in the attic, waiting to take from you while you are not home. It is the hardest of all Malware to detect and therefore to

remove; many experts recommend completely wiping your hard drive and reinstalling

everything from scratch. It is designed to permit the other information gathering

Malware to get the identity information from your computer without you realizing

anything is going on.

– Backdoors: Backdoors are much the same as Trojans or worms, except that they open a

“backdoor” onto a computer, providing a network connection for hackers or other

Malware to enter or for viruses or SPAM to be sent.

– Rogue security software: This one deceives or misleads users. It pretends to be a good program to remove Malware infections, but all the while it is the Malware. Often it will

turn off the real Anti-Virus software. The next image shows the typical screen for this

Malware program, Antivirus 2010

– Keyloggers: Records everything you type on your PC in order to glean your log-in names, passwords, and other sensitive information, and send it on to the source of the

keylogging program. Many times keyloggers are used by corporations and parents to

acquire computer usage information.

– Ransomware: If you see this screen that warns you that you have been locked out of your computer until you pay for your cybercrimes. Your system is severely infected with

a form of Malware called Ransomware. It is not a real notification from the FBI, but,

rather an infection of the system itself. Even if you pay to unlock the system, the system

is unlocked, but you are not free of it locking you out again. The request for money,

usually in the hundreds of dollars is completely fake.

– Browser Hijacker: When your homepage changes to one that looks like those in the

images inserted next, you may have been infected with one form or another of a Browser

Hijacker. This dangerous Malware will redirect your normal search activity and give you

the results the developers want you to see. Its intention is to make money off your web

surfing. Using this homepage and not removing the Malware lets the source developers

capture your surfing interests. This is especially dangerous when banking or shopping

online. These homepages can look harmless, but in every case they allow other more
