Oh the Places You CanGo from Lamb
Summer is a great time to get away and do some-thing different. Lamb residents had two tripopportunities they could enjoy this summer, theweeklong Lamb Getaways and the new LambGetaway Day Trippers.
The weeklong Lamb Getaways offer trips to thebeach, water parks, the New Jersey StateAquarium, and more. Back at the camp, residentsenjoy bowling, fishing, morning devotions, naturewalks, and more. At night, gathering around thecampfire and watching movies provide the perfectclose to summer days.
For those who prefer staying closer to home, the Lamb Getaway Day Trippers provide adven-ture and the ability to return to home each night. The program, introduced this year, proved to bevery popular. Day trips included the beach, awater park, Peddler’s Village, Trexler GamePreserve, a day in Skippack, and more.
“As many as half of the residents take advantageof the Lamb Getaways,” says Donna Mengel,Lamb Foundation director. The trips and campintroduce residents to many local activities theymight not have known existed. “They learn howthey can take a trip on their own, such as whereto get tickets and the train,” says Linda McComas, director of development.

Operation Tooth Fairy Brings Bright SmilesSmiles were the order of the day when Junior Girl Scout Troop 376 of North Walesdelivered their service project, Operation Tooth Fairy, to Lamb Foundation on August 24. Junior Girl Scouts Shannon Bouvia, Rosemary DeLuccia, Alison Moore, and Aurielle Smith, with the assistance of Phyllis Bouvia, Junior Girl Scout troop leader, collected dental supplies and donated them to Lamb Foundation residents.
Girl Scouts make it a little like Christmas“I thought it was really neat that their age group was interested in helping the elderly. Ipassed out the supplies to my house and they were thrilled — it was a little likeChristmas,” says Dolly Dancha, supervisor of the home at 200 South Main.
To achieve the Bronze Award, the highest award in Junior Girl Scouts, the girls had tofind a need in their community and develop a project to address it. Choosing to focuson dental health for the elderly and people with special needs, the girls wrote and senta letter to 28 local dental offices explaining their project and requesting donations.
Toothbrushes, floss, andmouthwash for 160More than 10 dental officesresponded, donating items fromtoothbrushes and floss tocoupons and mouthwash. Afterpackaging the donations into160 bags, the girls presentedOperation Tooth Fairy to Lamb.“Doing a project that impactstheir community and meetingthe people it benefits made theproject real to the girls, and theysaw how their project made adifference,” says Mrs. Bouvia.

This year’s most popular trip was seeing Noah, The Musical at Sight & Sound Theatresin Lancaster, which features both live and animatronic animals. “It was spectacular!Almost everyone thought all of the animals were real — it was that up-close and alive,”says Donna.
Lamb residents had something to smile about when Junior Girl ScoutTroop 376 donated dental supplies. Seated on bench, the Girl Scoutsare Aurielle Smith, Shannon Bouvia, Alison Moore, and RosemaryDeLuccia, with leader Phyllis Bouvia, standing second from left.
Music loverIn other seasons, Suzie loves to walk, ride her bike, and swim. She especially enjoysgoing to Parkside Place in Upper Gwynedd Township with friends to listen to musicevery Wednesday evening during the summer. “I love all kinds of music, especiallycountry and pop,” says Suzie.
When she’s not busy with sports, Suzie is busy with work. She works a morningshift at Normandy Farms restaurant, and most enjoys setting the tables and foldingthe napkins. She also helps at the Lamb office, as well as with dinner at her house,200 North Main Street.
Selling MelaleucaSuzie’s newest venture is working for Melaleuca Inc, a wellness company. She intro-duces people to their catalog, who may join to be a Melaleuca customer throughSuzie. An exciting part of this job is that she is able to use it as a fundraiser for LambFoundation as well.
Suzie is looking forward to fall and has a trip to Stratton, Vt., planned. “Being hereis fun, and there are nice people,” says Suzie, adding, “I like that I can walk to manyplaces and be independent.”
