We had a pool for many years (about 25 years at our current residence) and in all those years we never had more than a few 90 degree plus days per year! News for Ewes September 2016 3

Who is she you ask?

Craftsy writes: “A former navigation officer for British cargo ships, Lucy Neatby now finds herself submerged in the fabulous world of fiber. Whether designing, writing or instructing, she strives to bring out the true fun in knitting. Her website, Lucy Neatby Designs, is no different. Lucy is also the face behind a series of instructional DVDs, Learn with Lucy, and the author of popular books, including Cool Socks Warm Feet, Cool Knitters Finish in Style and A Little Book of BIG Holes for Hand-Knitters.”

She currently has four classes on Craftsy that are discounted. If you want to familiarize yourself with her style you can’t go wrong with one of the classes—Fearless Knitting, Foundations of Double Knitting, My First Socks and/or Next Steps in Knit-ting. Treat yourself to one of more of her classes, you won’t be sorry.

Which workshops will we offer?

I’m glad that you asked. Like the past few years, two workshops each will be offered on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

We’ve chosen workshops for most levels. Pick one or all. Workshops will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at the October, 2016 meeting. Space in each workshop is limited, so register early. Please review the workshop descriptions on the member website before making your selection. If you’re missing a necessary skill but want to take the workshop, never fear, we can help. Please see Cindy Proano, Cheri Switzer or Nancy Vandivert if you will need help.

We look forward to helping you in October.

—Cindy, Cheri, and Nancy

There is Room for You! There are vacant positions—please consider volunteering!

A small reminder: we are very privileged to be guests at the home of our host, Temple B'rith Kodesh. The Temple provides us with a wonderful place to meet each month and enjoy all our Guild has to offer. In order for us to continue to enjoy this location, please remember to be mindful of our surroundings. Should you wish to smoke, please remember smoking is only appropriate outside in an area not directly in front of the entrance. Thank you for your consideration.

Member Shop News

Please check out the list of member shops on the last page of the newsletter. Please patronize these shops, as they are kind enough to offer a 10% discount to RKG members. Note that The Woolery on Main is no longer a member shop as they are now focusing on rug hooking and gifts.

Shop night this year will be held on November 21. Please note the change in our November meeting. Mark your calendar, and let me know if you will need a table for this event.

Library

This Fall I just want to remind everyone about the library loan policies. Every registered member will be permitted to borrow any of the books in the collection up to a limit of five books at a time. You may borrow the books for one month and renew them for a second month without a fine. If the books are not returned by the third month there will be a fine of $2.00 per month until the end of the Guild season then the cost of the fine will be the cost of replacing the book, which varies according to the current replace-ment price of the book found on the internet. If you need to contact me for any reason I can be found at [email protected].

This summer was very busy, I am sure for most of us, especially for me. I have been busy not only with knitting but I completed a patchwork quilt that has taken me over a year to make. I have also been playing around with some of the lovely yarns that I won at the bag auction.

This article will be short because I wanted to finish off last May’s article about color and show off some of the 389 books we have that include pat-terns that incorporate lots of colors in a single project. Here are a few of my favorites which I will have avail-able for loan during the September meeting. Knitter’s Stash says it all for many of us. This book not only

imparts ideas for the use of yarn, but also has ideas for organizing your stash. Alice Starmore’s book, Charts For Color Knitting has a variety of color patterns or color knitting using charts. Some are easy to understand while some of the others are challenging and best for advanced knitters.

—Barbara Ryon-Covill-Gay and Lelanda Covill

Hi everyone! I hope you have all had a great summer! As we are now entering September and beginning the lovely fall season, now is a great time to start think about stocking up for your winter knitting projects and hanging out with your fiber friends by attending the Finger Lakes Fiber Festi-val, where there will be a wide range of fiber and tools, classes, demonstrations, as well as food and friends!

And if you are planning to attend the festival, why not get in for free? The festival depends on volunteers to be successful, and to thank you for contributing two hours of your time to that success, you will receive free admission to the festival for that day. You can sign up by contacting me by e-mail at [email protected], by phone at 315-264-3718, or in person at the September meeting.

Thanks and happy knitting!

—Vicki Beighley, Finger Lakes Fiber Festival Volunteer Coordinator and fellow RKG member
