WHAT IS AN EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE? Exchange Study Packages are balanced, coherent, well-structured, and self-contained sets of courses at a final Bachelor year academic level. Choosing one of these packages means you do not have to worry about selecting the right courses or managing your calendar to fit all of your classes. Simply apply for a package that suits your academic background and interest to be ensured of a well-balanced exchange programme, often consisting of 30 EC. These packages are generally accessible to students who have successfully completed the first two years of their Bachelor programme. EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE WWW.UTWENTE.NL/GO/EXCHANGE FINANCE FOR ENGINEERS IEM focusses on processes inside and across organizations and is aimed at improving the design and control of these processes to enhance organizational performance (efficiency, profit, quality, service, safety, risks, etc.). Application areas are diverse, e.g. manufacturing, logistics, finance, telecommunications, healthcare, etc. Learning Goals 1. Valuation: understanding of the main principles of financial valuation, and ability to apply the valuation techniques in determining the value of bond, shares, firms as well as simple financial options. 2. Accounting / performance: interpret real world financial figures related to (external) financial ac- counting and (internal) management accounting. 3. Decisions / management: understanding some basic principles underlying financial and investment decisions, and the ability to perform corresponding basic applications. 4. Financial markets: elementary knowledge of financial markets and their role in corporate finance 5. Methodology: knowledge and application of information elicitation techniques and multi-criteria analysis Content In this module we give an introduction to the field of Finance. Concepts and tools are addressed, ranging from Accounting to Corporate Finance and a bit of Option Pricing. The level is tuned to second or third year bachelor students from a technical program, with some background in statistics and probability, including at least some familiarity with the concepts of variance, standard deviation, correlation, normal distribution, and statistical significance.     desirable, for instance as treated in the financial week ofthe first module TBK/BIT. We address questions like: what are costs, revenues,expenses, cash flows, and profits? How to keep track ofthe financial status of a company, and how to manageit? Can we express performance in financial terms? Howto assess the value of an investment plan? How doesrisk affect value? Is the ultimate goal of a company tomaximize shareholder’s value? What should be in acompany’s annual report? How to finance my business?What do the financial markets offer companies in thisrespect? Do they exist to serve business, or is it theother way around? How are markets regulated? Why dofinancial options and derivatives exist?

    There is a central role for a project in this module. Thecontext will be provided by the annual reports of somecompanies that will serve as leading examplesthroughout the module. In the first weeks, emphasis ison connecting theory to the project context. In thesecond part of the module the project is leading – youwill deepen your knowledge, and learn to applyconcepts and tools in a case context. The project for thismodule is developed in cooperation with the AuthorityFinancial Markets (AFM).
