Background
• The sovereignty of God
• The grace and Mercy of God
• Favour and high regard
The final warning
• God’s judgment will go out• It will be devastating • It will be effective
• Moses righteous anger
• God tells Moses that Pharaoh will not listen even to this final warning
So what?
• God’s standards are not negotiable
• God is merciful and kind but we mustn’t presume upon that
• Judgment is certain so we must sound the warning to the very last
The response of the Jews
• They were to regard these as monumental events
• Worship was more important than preparation
• Moses instructed and taught the people
• The people worshipped and obeyed
So what?
• We need to recognise that some events have particular significance
• We need to get our priorities right
• We need to teach and declare truth
• We need to embrace God’s right to judge
The judgment arrives
• The riches, wisdom, culture and gods of Egypt were meaningless in the face of judgment
• Note the brevity of the account of the actual judgment (12:29-30)
So what?
• God is no respecter of persons
• God will judge everyone
• God does not delight in judgment and neither should we
The exodus
• They left in haste (12:33-36)
• The plundering of the Egyptians
• The mixed multitude
So what?
• God gave Israel recompense for their suffering
• We must be careful not to allow people who do not share our faith to knock us off track
Today’s take-away
• Judgment is certain• Repent while there is time• Declare the message while there is time
• God will avenge and reward
