Dear Model Railroader,

It’s a new year, 2021! And Micro-Trains is ready to offer you the absolute best in N and Z scale model trains!

For more than 48 years, located in Southern Oregon, our 33,000 sq ft factory is where we design, tool, manufacture, decorate, assemble and distribute worldwide our highly detailed freight and passenger rail cars, our Magne-Matic® couplers, trucks, tools and an extensive line of modeling accessories.

We are excited for 2021, as we tool up our next N scale freight car, the PS2 2-Bay Covered Hopper. This car will come with the same level of detail that we included on the ‘TBOX’ car last year. Estimated delivery is in the latter part of the year.

2021 will also include Micro-Trains producing the following N scale series; the “Sweet Liquid” tank car series using our single dome tank car. Moreover, we are pleased to share that we will continue our license with AM General this year to produce more Humvee® vehicles for your military flat car train consist or for accessories on your layout.

Micro-Trains will also be offering during 2021 several prototypically accurate freight car “multi-packs”; which can include anywhere from two rail cars all the way to eight and/or ten-packs. And rest assured our ever-popular weathered releases in both N and Z scale will continue throughout the year.

Micro-Trains strongly encourages you to support your favorite model train and hobby retailers. In addition, please know that we do offer our own online retail store. This provides but one more option to shop and purchase our entire line of N and Z railcars, sets, tools and accessories.

Yes, 2021 is a great year for model railroading, and please know all of us at Micro-Trains appreciate the interest and support of N and Z scale modelers from around the world. We look forward to offering the best trains during 2021 and beyond!

N 60’ Rib Side, Double Plug Door High-CubeBuilt by National Steel Car in the 2000s for Railbox and other roads, these “Super Duty” 286,000-pound capacity, 60’ rib-side high-cube boxcars feature double-plug doors with a 16’ wide opening, allowing the customer to easily load everything from paper products, to appliances and general freight. Commonly called “TBOX cars” in reference to the Railbox reporting mark, they have a 7,538 cubic-foot capacity and join a growing fleet of larger profile “Plate F” cars providing higher capacities for shippers looking to streamline their deliveries all-across North America.

N 60’ Rib Side, Double Plug Door High-Cube

N Pullman Standard PS-2 2 Bay Covered HopperPrevious to covered hoppers, loose commodities were often hauled in modified boxcars; an inefficient and messy process. During the mid-1950’s, Pullman-Standard developed a revolutionary all-welded steel, 2,003 cubic-foot two-bay covered hopper that would become one of the most popular cars of its type with railroads and private industry. The PS-2 had a dividing wall inside so multiple products could be carried at the same time and its 8 round hatches allowed for quick, efficient loading. It was designed to haul everything from powdered chemicals, to grains, to construction materials such as sand or cement. Versatile and durable, this car continued in revenue service into the early 2000’s, and was sometimes found later in MOW service. This PS-2 hopper paved the way for today’s larger capacity two, three, and four-bay hoppers.

Solar System Series

Sweet Liquid Series

The N scale Solar System Series will feature nine remarkable 60’ boxcars featuring stunning and iconic imagery of our eight planets and sun. Included on the side of the car is a profile of each planet’s main physical characteristics along with interesting facts and a diagram showing the order and relative size of each. Each Solar System Series car will be available with or without interior LED lighting, a feature that allows you to illuminate the planet’s image by use of a telescope-shaped magnetic wand.*

*Renderings shown for representation only.

Special food-grade tank cars have been used to transport a variety of sweet concentrates from distribution centers to factories all over the United States. Commodities such as corn syrup, cane syrup, honey, molasses and others were commonly shipped in bulk by rail in heated tank cars to processing plants, choc-olate factories, breweries and soft drink factories. Sometimes adorned by bright and flashy artwork, they were colorful “stand-outs” in any manifest freight train. This Sweet Liquid Tank Car Series will feature twelve prototypically accurate 39’ Single Dome Tank Cars in N and Z Scale.

Series Begins March 2021

*Magnetic wand included with the first car in series. It will also be available

for purchase separately.

Design Your Own

To receive more information about our Special Run Program please visit our website at www.micro-trains.com and select Special Runs from the top nav bar or contact us by email at [email protected].

For years Micro-Trains has been producing custom runs for model railroad clubs, individuals and businesses through our Special Run Program. So what is the Special Run Program?

Our Special Run Program allows you to produce freight cars in limited quantities and decorated to your own unique specifications. Over the years we have produced short runs of cars to be used as fund-raisers, club membership specials, employee incentives, branding pieces and his-torical reproductions – just to name a few.

The Magne-Matic® Coupler

True-Scale Coupler

Trucks

The advent of our Magne-Matic coupling system revolutionized the model railroad industry. The Magne-Matic coupler offers the most ef-fective and reliable “hands-free” operation in the industry, including automatic delayed recoupling.

Micro-Trains has introduced many variations and applications of the Magne-Matic system to fit most of the equipment produced by vari-ous manufacturers in the N, Z, Nn3 and HOn3 scales. To learn which coupler you need to convert your model to Magne-Matic® couplers, go to our website at www.mico-trains.com and select “Conversions” from the top navigation bar.

The ‘True-Scale’ coupler is specifically designed for accurate scale size, more prototypical features, proper scale-distance between cars and no slinky effect when operating. This easy-to-assemble and install body mount coupler consists of a draft gear box, lid, knuckle, lip shank and a separate plug-in air hose. There are no springs. They are uncoupled manually using a sharp toothpick or a needle and can be joined by simply pushing the cars together. These couplers are to scale so they will not couple with existing larger N scale couplers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Made in America!Made in America! All Micro-Trains rolling stock is designed, tooled and produced in the United States.Located in beautiful southern Oregon, Micro-Trains’ 33,000 sq.ft. factory resides in the small city of Talent. For over 45 years Micro-Trains has been producing model trains, start to finish, right here in the USA. With over 50 employ-ees, our crew is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality models in the industry and providing the highest level of service possible. Our in-house engineering and tooling departments push the limits of plastic injection mold tooling to create some of the finest models in the world. Once tooling has finished the mold and plastic has been run, the shells and related parts move on to our decorating department. The decorating process requires a variety of printing machines and special techniques to get the micro-fine print and mask detail that you find on our cars. The final stage is the as-sembly process where the cars come to life. Our assembly crew utilizes a combination of pneumatic jigs and hand assembly work to put the dozen or more pieces together for each car. We are proud that, to date, we’re the only model train company in the world that offers more than 160 styles of N and Z scale freight, passenger and locomo-tive equipment.

If you are coming to southern Oregon and would like to see our factory firsthand, contact our front office a couple days in advance and we’d be happy to give you a personal tour. Thank you for your continued support of our Amer-ican-made products!
