PDA TESTING

ParklandGEO conducts Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) testing for large strain dynamic pile load testing inaccordance with ASTM Standard D4945. Since April 2011, we have performed between 300 and 400 PDAtests on over fifty sites for a variety of projects ranging from small buildings and bridges, to major industrialcomplexes and a major urban expressway with multiple structures. The following is a partial list of our PDAtesting experience.

ParklandGEO have one of the most experienced PDA testing and CAPWAP analysis groups in WesternCanada, with ten staff members presently trained to undertake the field PDA testing work. Our PDA testinggroup has a close working relationship with the manufacturer PDI Inc. and their consulting division GRLEngineering Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio. We frequently use GRL services for internal quality control for our testanalysis. We have access to Pile Integrity Test (PIT), Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) and Thermal IntegrityProfiling (TIP) equipment. We presently have four sets of PDA equipment and four E-saximeters, and one setof Pile Integrity Test (PIT) equipment.

STATIC LOAD TESTING

ParklandGEO have three senior geotechnical engineers with over twenty years of experience each. Oursenior engineers have experience on pile load test programs dating back to the 1980's. In addition,ParklandGEO have over ten other intermediate to senior level geotechnical engineers on staff in Alberta. Ofthese engineers, seven have been involved in at least one of the four pile load test programs that have beencompleted by ParklandGEO in the past two years. Past pile load test clients of ParklandGEO personnelinclude Alberta Infrastructure, MEG Energy, Fining Canada, Melcor Developments, Nova Chemicals andUnion Carbide. In the past, ParklandGEO has relied on RST Instruments Ltd. of Vancouver, for supply of equipment, straingauges, dial gauges, data loggers etc. for pile load testing projects. We have a number of data loggers, a fullset of manual dial gauges and a slope indicator. Typically we have rented calibrated load cells directly fromRST and our piling contractors have supplied the required beams and jacks. We recently commissioned RSTto provide us with a full load test setup including a 4450 kN load cell, dedicated eight channel data logger, eight linear variable displacement transducers (LVDT’s) and associated cabling for primary data acquisition. In combination with a small lap top this will give us the ability to plot pile deflections in real time. This will alsoallow us to use our manual dial gauges as a secondary data system for backup instead of crude mirror, wireand scale setups.
