A sunless glow appears when the simple cellular sugar by-product – Dihydroxyacetone – meets a structural protein on the surface of the skin. When these two ingredients intermingle through a complex series of steps and the warmth of body temperature, they form stable brown, yellow, and red compounds called Melanoidins. These compounds mimic the natural melanin skin produces when it tans.

Since Melanoidins adhere to the outermost layer of skin that protects from the environment, they gently slough off as the skin naturally regenerates. That is why a sunless tan fades, and why bathing or exfoliating speeds up the process.

White tea is harvested from the delicate, unopened leaf buds, which contain the highest concentrations of antioxidants produced by the tea plant in its lifetime. VITAMIN CVitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants required by all cells to counteract damaging free radicals and reactive oxygen species. OIL FREEAll DeLucca products are oil free, and contain no additives commonly recognized to be problematic for skin prone to acne and comedones.

DeLucca’s Professional Exfoliating Solution uses these amazing compounds to pre-treat skin for our Bronzing treatment in the spa or salon, making preparatory exfoliation unnecessary.

CUCUMBERCucumber extract is a wonderfully soothing anti-irritant agent with gentle hydrating and calming properties. It is an ideal agent for soothing skin as it is gently exfoliated with DeLucca’s Professional Exfoliating Solution.

INGREDIENTS

On the FaceBegin with an almond-sized amount of DeLucca sunless tanning product dispensed into the hand. Apply first to the face and neck, gently massaging into and around the hairline, and then downward to the face, around the jawline, and blending into the neck and decollette. Use the integrated color guide to see where you have applied product, and to touch up any spots that may have been missed. Pay particular attention to the area below the chin and the throat.

Remove excess product around the hairline and browline with a lightly moistened cotton pad.

On the LegsBegin with a light layer of moisturizer applied to the knees, ankles, and the tops of feet and toes. Then apply a slightly heavier layer of DeLucca sunless tanning to the legs in a gentle, circular motion. Apply less to knees, ankles, and feet.

Use a moistened cotton pad to soften the absorption of sunless product along the knees, ankles, sides of the feet, and toenails.

Allow the product to dry completely before dressing or coming into contact with fabrics.

On the Back and BodyUsing the palms, apply a generous layer of DeLucca sunless tanning products to the back and body. Pay particular attention to areas under the arms, beneath the breasts, and around the waistline. Buff these areas gently with the palms once product is applied to even and soften the application.

On the ArmsWe recommend applying DeLucca sunless tanning products to the arms as the last step in your sunless tanning regimen.

With the palms of the hands, apply a generous layer of product to both arms from the wrist to the shoulder, buffing in circular motions, while blending into

the decollette and the upper shoulders and neck.

When you have finished application to the arms, wash your hands with soap and water. Next, apply a light layer of moisturizer to the hands and palms, then dispense a small amount of DeLucca sunless tanning product onto the back of your hand. Gently rub your hands together to apply the product onto the backs of both hands, fingers, and wrists.

Finish by gently buffing with a moistened cotton pad to blend and soften the tan on the wrists, sides of hands, nails, palms, and elbows.

MaintenanceThe DeLucca sunless bronze effect lasts from 5 to 7 days, sloughing off naturally with the skin’s own renewal process. Showering and bathing excessively will cause your tan to fade more quickly.

Reapply the tanning product every 2-3 days to maintain an even color. The DeLucca Gradual Sunless Tanning Gel may also be used as a daily touch-up between applications of DeLucca Sunless Tanning Crème.

It is essential to protect your skin from the sun with a broad-spectrum protectant product with an SPF rating of 15 or higher. Layering products that have included sun protection – such as foundation and powder – on top of your base layer of SPF 15+ will provide added protection to your skin throughout the day.

APPLICATION

Will I turn orange?While sunless tans will develop according to each person’s individual chemistry, there are some other factors that can affect hue.

Tans may tend toward orange when too much product is applied, there is not enough time between successive applications, or when the product is too dark for a person’s skin tone. Tans may develop a yellowish hue when traditional soap is used on the skin. Using detergent-based cleansing agents can help prevent this problem.

Will the tan streak or turn out patchy?The evenness of a sunless tan depends on proper pretreatment, application, and development.

Before application, the skin must be clean, dry, and exfoliated. Skin that has dry patches or is too moist will absorb too much or too little product.

During application, the product must be applied carefully and evenly.

Following application, the product must be allowed to develop fully before vigorous exercise, humid conditions, or bathing occurs. Generally, a sunless tan can take 8 hours to develop fully.

How much should I apply?For 1 total body application, 1 ounce of product is usually sufficient.

In general, apply an almond-sized amount on the face, and use an equal amount on the neck and decolette. Use a peach stone-sized amount for each limb, and apply an equal amount to the front and back of the body.

Can I shower/exercise?Allow DeLucca’s Sunless Tanning Crème to fully develop for 8 hours for best result. Showering before 4-6 hours will completely inhibit the sunless reaction.

Are all products suitable for the face?Each DeLucca product is suitable for the face and body. The DeLucca line is formulated for sensitive and delicate skins, as well as for skin prone to oiliness and breakouts. The DeLucca Sunless Tanning Crème is an excellent daily matte primer base for makeup and SPF products.

Will it smell?DeLucca sunless tanning products are specifically formulated to have a light, pleasing fragrance, and most people will notice no characteristic sunless tan odor with our products.

Will I break out?Each DeLucca sunless tanning product has been carefully designed to be non-comedogenic, oil free, and skin-calming. DeLucca Sunless Tanning Crème is oil-absorbent, with a light matte finish, and DeLucca Gradual Sunless Gel is water-based.

Do I need sunscreen?At DeLucca, we advise you to protect your skin during daylight hours with a broad-spectrum sun protectant product of SPF 15 or greater.

Do any medications affect the tan?Medications that increase the cellular turnover of skin will reduce the longevity of a sunless tan. Retinoids, acne medications, and hydroxy acid exfoliants fall into this cateorgy. Benzoyl peroxide, a topical disinfectant found in many over-the-counter and prescription acne treatments will have a bleaching effect on a sunless tan. More frequent application of sunless tanner may solve this concern.

How often to apply?Many people find that their legs and body need reapplication every 7-10 days, while their face and arms need retouching in 3-5 days. If you are naturally fair, and wish to maintain a darker color, you should reapply more regularly. People who frequently bathe or engage in regular aerobic activity will also need more frequent reapplication.
