Two. Experimental principles

Commonly used water shutoff agents involve the following four types:

gel, jelly, precipitation-type, suspension-type.

Gel: It turns from macromolecular solution(eg. zirconium gel).The pr

operties are characterized by gelling time and gel strength.

Jelly: It turns from collosol(eg. Silicagel). The properties are charact

erized by gelation time and jelly strength.

Precipitation-type water shutoff agent: water glass- calcium chloride

is very common in oil field .

Suspension-type water shutoff agent: A thick disperse system is form

ed by solid particle dispersed in the solution.

Three. Instruments and Chemicals

1.Instruments 100ml beaker; 10ml capped test tube with scale; 5ml and 25ml measuring cylinder; glass rod. 2.Chemicals: Polyacrylamide; Zirconium oxychloride; Sodium silicate; Calcium chloridie; Hydrochloric acid; Clay.

Four. Experiment steps: 1.Add 20ml Polyacrylamide (HPAM) of the sa

me concentration to three 100ml beakers separately, then adjust the PH value of cross-linking solution:

Add nothing to the first beaker Add 6 drops 1% Hcl to the second beaker Add 7 drops 1% NaOH to the Third beaker

Determine the PH value of cross-linking solution in the three 100ml beaker separately with indicator strips, and add 2ml Zirconium oxychloride of certain concentration to the three beakers separately, then observe and record the condition of the gelation (description of intensity: completely stir up,partly stir up,cannot stir up )

2.Take three 10ml graduated test tubes with stopper, Firstly, add

5ml water glass with the concentration of 10% respectively, and

then add different drops of 10% hydrochloric acid, observe and

record the gel time and strength. Start to record the time when

adding the first drop of hydrochloric acid.

3. Add 5ml 10% water glass in one test tube and 10% Calcium

chloride drop by drop . Observe and record the experimental

phenomena in the meantime.

4. Take three 10ml graduated test tubes with stopper. Add 10ml

clay suspensions and the different concentrations of HPAM

respectively. Observe and record the experimental phenomena.
