Top 5 Places to Explore in Hyderabad
#1 Mecca MasjidLegends say that a room in the
courtyard houses a hair of Prophet
Muhammad.
Mecca Masjid is one of the oldest
mosques in Hyderabad. It is located
in the old city and is a listed heritage
site. The bricks used in constructing
the central arch were commissioned
to be made from the soil brought from
Mecca, which gives the mosque its
name. It is the centrepiece around
which the city was planned by
Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah. The
ramparts are made of granite planks.
The tombs of the Nizams are inside
the masjid. Entry of non-muslims is
not allowed.
An Interesting Fact: The masjid is
located just a stone throw distance
away from Charminar and it can
accommodate 10,000 devotees at a
time.
#2 Charminar
The centrepiece of the Hyderabad,
Charminar is a mosque and a
monument, located on the east bank
of Musi river. The four minarets,
which give the monument its name,
are attached and supported by four
grand arches. The monument is
surrounded by Laad Bazar in the
west and Mecca Masjid in the south-
west.
An Interesting Tip:
A visit to Hyderabad is incomplete
without paying homage to this
wonderful master-class, which some
say is comparable to the Taj Mahal
in beauty and architecture.
#3 Hussain Sagar
Hussain Sagar is a lake built
by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali. It
is spread across an area of 5.7
square kilometres and is fed by
River Musi. Things to look out
for are the 18 meter high
monolithic Buddha statue in the
middle of the lake, Lumbini
Park, Patton Tank and Birla
Mandir. The lake is a popular
spot for sailing. Necklace Road
runs along the lake and
connects important locations on
its bank.
An Important Tip: The best
time to visit this lake is in the
evening when the artificial
lights illuminate the glory of this
historic place.
#4 Indira Park
Indira Park is a public
greenspace and park located
in Domalguda. The park
houses an award winning
Rock Garden. Indira Park has
a romantic ambience and is
famous as a rendezvous point
for couples. The park has a
decent sprinkle of
sandalwood trees, which
adds to the greenery of the
park.
An Interesting Tip: Plan a
picnic in this park with family
and friends.
# 5 Lotus Pond Park
Lotus Pond Park is a small
water body located in Jubilee
Hills. Along with lush green
fauna you may also cite
around 20 species of birds. It
is a eco-conservation project
which neutralises the hustle-
bustle of the busy city.

Hyderabadi BiryaniHyderabadi Biryani: The dish needs no
introduction. It is mixture of rice and meat,
cooked with some exotic spices. There are
different types of biryanis served in
Hyderabad:
Hyderabadi Biryani: It is the traditional
type. An excellent combination of lamb and
rice.
Kachche Ghosht ki biryani: Raw meat is
stir fried with spices (masalas) for couple of
minutes and then covered with rice and put
in the Dum Pukht
Hyderabadi Zafrani Biryani: Saffron is
soaked and cooked with rice
Keeme ki Khichdi: Marinated minced
meat is cooked in rice.

Hyderabadi Haleem: It is a
seasonal delicacy of wheat
and meat. It is cooked for
hours into a porridge like
paste. It is usually prepared
