Flatiron Court, Boulder Exploring Ocean Worlds Not long ago, Earth was thought to be the only ocean-bearing world in our solar system. Now, global, liquid water oceans have been identified under the icy surfaces of two moons in the outer solar system, and there is evidence to support past or present oceans in several others. The potential of these ocean worlds to serve as habitats has elevated them to the next great frontier in planetary science. This lecture will focus on the ocean worlds of Europa at Jupiter and Enceladus at Saturn and the new missions that NASA is developing to visit these icy ocean worlds. Exploring Ocean WorldsNot long ago, Earth was thought to be the only ocean-bearing world in our solar system.
