The church’s sen-ior pastor, Apostle SimonMokoena, told congregantswho had flocked to the serv-ice that the Free State gov-ernmenthad signedover theland to the church.

Mokoena told congre-gants that a certain “whiteparty” was hindering theprocesses of allowing thechurch to purchase the land.

“Why would you vote fora party that won’t give youthis land,” Mokoena ques-tioned his congregants dur-ing the sermon.

Mokoena urged congre-gants to vote for a party thatwas “for” the church.

In August, DA Free Statelegislature member RoyJankielsohn opened a caseof fraud and conspiracy tocommit theft against Pre-mier Ace Magashule. Thecase follows a promisemadeby Magashule to hand overthe title deed of the land to

the church during a youthconference in Botshabelo inAugust. ELZABE ROCKMAN,MEC for Finance in theFree State, recently visited 23 municipalitiesthroughout the Free State. These visits wereaimed at helping the municipalities to achievea clean audit status in 2014.

Rockman concluded her journey at the Malu-ti-a-Phofung Local Municipality on Wednesday.

She said she was delegated by the NationalTreasury to all the municipalities in the prov-ince, excluding the Mangaung Metro.

“We are not making sufficient progress toachieve clean audit statuses. Some of the muni-cipalities are making progress, but there werea number of municipalities which seemed tohave gotten stuck in the challenges that havebeen there for the past three to four years,”Rockman said.

She stated that they knew they needed to dosomethingdifferent in order for them to achievetheir goals.

“We then decided to engage the mayors andthe political leadership. The engagement hasbeen there before between the Department ofCo-operative Governance and Traditional Af-fairs (COGTA), theProvincialTreasuryandmu-nicipalities at official level, but we have not en-gaged sufficiently to bring the political leader-ship on board.

“We wanted to ask them to ensure that theytake the responsibility to drive certain process-es within the municipality, so that we ultimate-ly improve financialgovernance, financialman-agement and the sustainability of municipali-ties. Those issues directly impact on servicedelivery. And through all of this we will ulti-mately achieve our improved audit outcome.”

She said the audit no longer only took into ac-count financial management, but the perform-ance management part as well.

“So without the political leadership beingvery strong in terms of giving direction, guid-ance and exercising oversight, those are issuesthat we feel we have not sufficiently addressed

THE veteran skipper of the FreeState Stars, Paulos Masehe, wants tolift a trophy before he hangs up hisboots.

He is quite aware that Ea Lla Kotohas had a good run in both the Tel-kom Knockout Cup and the NedbankCup.

Masehe says the team has learnt alot in the cup championships andthey now know what they should doto march to the finals of the competi-tion.

This coming Sunday either Ea Lla

Koto or Amakhosi will be knockedout of the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals. The two teams will battle fora place in the semi-finals of the cupwhen they meet at the Charles Mope-li Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00.The Bethlehem-based Stars ad-

vanced to thequarterfinals of theTel-kom Knockout with a 2-0 home victo-ry over AmaZulu.

Danny Venter and Abdul-Basit Ad-am guided the team.

Chiefs booked their place in thequarterfinals with a 3-0 victory awayto the PSL rookies Polokwane City.

Ea Lla Koto’s best show in the Tel-kom Knockout era is reaching thesemi-finals, a feat they achieved lastseason as well as in the 2007-’08 and2008-’09 campaigns, while Amakhosihave lifted the trophy three times inthe Telkom Knockout era, winningthe competition in 2007 -’08, 2009 -’10and 2010-’11.

“We need to be consistent. We justneed to take each and every game se-rious and make sure that we beatthem. I am sure that this time we willmanage to win the semi-finals andhopefully reach the finals,” he said.

Masehe said he was confident that

they would win the cup should theyreach the final stage of the tourna-ment.

Both Steve Komphela and StuartBaxter will be watching the 90 min-uteswithhawkeyes – theyknowhowimportant a win will be on the day.

The two coaches are not strangers. They have worked together with thenational team, Bafana Bafana.Komphela was the right-hand man toBaxter in 2004.

The Soweto Giants hope for re-venge as they were kicked out of thequarterfinals of the 2012 NedbankCup, with Stars grabbing a 1-0 win.

However, Stars will be motivatedby the home turf advantage and thetwelfth man in the form of the sup-porters.

The ability of strikers to scoregoals will be key here.

Should both teams fail to win thegame in an open play, it will be decid-ed on penalties.

Stars will pin their hopes on thefree scoring Adam, Venter, LuyoloNomandela and Katlego Mashegowhile Knowledge Musona, BernardParker, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Re-neilwe Letsholonyana will be expect-ed to do the job for Chiefs.
